Did Trump supporters know they’d be paying for his tariffs on Chinese goods?

I have long been in support of measures to reduce the consumption of Chinese goods. I don’t shop at Walmart and I try to avoid shoes and clothes made there (it’s difficult though!)

I’m at a loss as to why Trump makes his own clothing in China and has not attempted any kind of “buy American” campaign, if he truly wants to reduce our dependence on Chinese goods and increase manufacturing in the U.S.
That's an easy one - falsely pinning problems on foreigners, especially non-white ones, tends to play well with his base.

There's rarely any secret about any of Donald's lies... his followers choose not to see them anyway.

Well, rather than artificially inflating the prices using the government, what kind of incentives could we offer US companies to actually make better products?
Government getting involved with the means of production? Uh oh, sounds like SOCIALISM! to me. Better to let the free market sort it out by having the government impose tariffs.

Like I said, more evidence for an answer to the OP's question.

Well, like I stated in another post, I watched the news yesterday and they said everything will be more expensive, like the goods from china.

So i was wrong on the tax thing from our pockets.

But he’s supposedly rich enough to buy American and support American manufacturing. We can’t “bring manufacturing jobs back” unless Americans buy American.
Being rich has nothing to do with it. It's good business sense. If you start a business, you do it to make money. Otherwise either you don't start it or you don't get rich. At the same time, he saw a need to change the rules of the game, and when the time was right finally decided to seek the position where he could make those changes.

Yup, Trump is a person who puts his own wealth and profits before his country. Plenty of businesses chose less profit in order to uphold certain values. It’s not an either/or equation. It’s no different than me choosing to spend more $$ on goods from smaller businesses rather than shop at Walmart.

Just read this tweet from Trump:

"For 10 months, China has been paying Tariffs to the USA of 25% on 50 Billion Dollars of High Tech, and 10% on 200 Billion Dollars of other goods. These payments are partially responsible for our great economic results. The 10% will go up to 25% on Friday. 325 Billions Dollars," Trump tweeted Sunday.

So looks to me like he believes, or wants people to believe, that China is paying the tariffs and that is somehow boosting the economy already.
Tweleve-dimension chess.

Well, you’ll notice that clothing is exempt from the tariffs.
So all those Trump Brand (and Ivanka too) clothing items are still undercutting American clothing manufacturers.

He's giving China "space to repent". It's a Godly principle.
I don't think that selling a good below cost, or manipulating currency or trade is something that needs to be repented from. All nations do this, (American included) China just happens to be much better at it in part due to their command economy, where things can be coordinated better. The risk Trump takes by letting this trade war drag out is from the farm states, who already are balking on trade. If Trump loses their support, he might not be around long enough to "win."

Tom Cotton says their sacrifice is small compared to military in Afghanistan.

His idiotic comments aren't going to stop inflation, the stock market tanking, bankruptcies, etc.

Sure hope their sacrifice finally makes them realize they need to dump Trump.

Cotton too. He is Trump without all the cheeseburgers in bed.

He's pumping aid to those farmers as fast as he can.

Oh no, SOCIALISM!

Socialism would have the government owning those farms.

Of course then there would be no danger of overproduction.

He's embraced Socialism, you mean.

Government doesn't own those farms. If they did we wouldn't have an export problem as there wouldn't be enough grain to export. ^_^ Actually that wouldn't be a bad thing.
