That's interesting - ISTR some speculation about olfactory receptors distinguishing smells based on quantum effects, given that their discrimination is hard to account for with classical chemistry.

The absence of 'quantum effects' in heavy water, may explain the sensation of its 'slight sweetness' (in humans) when compared with normal water .. interesting.
I know my tongue is good at detecting 9 volts when its plonked across a 9 volt battery's terminals, too!
