New York and California would decide most elections.
Which state do you think cast the most votes for Trump in 2020?

Making a Republican president nearly impossible.
Perhaps Republicans should work on making themselves appealing to the majority of Americans then?

You need an exact percent?
Sure, why not? It is nowhere near half of all voters, let alone half of all Americans.

One person regardless of his status does not represent
the attitude of half the country over the past 57 or
whatever
Again, Republicans are nowhere near half the country. I don't get why you keep repeating that. However, the head of the party could be said to represent that party; he is not some rando.

I don't have a dog in America's fight with itself,
though I'd prefer a prosperous, sane America.
I see both sides accusing eachother of the same things,
and occasionally suggest the extremist view of
" they" always / never do this are that, all are hypocrits
etc is obviously untrue and does only harm to keep
making such claims.
What you see depends on where you look.

I guess I will stop. Go ahead America, destroy yourself.
It will save us the expense.
Whatever.

New York and California aren't uniform states. Yes more people voted for Biden in those states, but if the electoral college was eliminated, the 9.25 million Republicans in those two states wouldn't have had their votes thrown out. Biden won in 2020 by getting 56% of the Electoral College and 51% of the popular vote. Trump still would have lost either way, but it would have been much closer if the votes of the people and not the states were counted.

plus it would hugely matter by how many people don't vote because their vote is meaninlgess.

People keep talking about "eliminate the Electoral College" as though it were something the Glinda the Good Witch of the North could just wave her wand and do. It's a long yellow brick road to a Constitutional amendment, and there are plenty of evil flying monkeys along the way.

The proposal to eliminate the Electoral College requires, of course, a Constitutional amendment. Have you read the process of amending the Constitution?

The easiest resolution is to proportion the state electors according to the state popular vote...which any state can do unilaterally at any time (and three states do).

But if your can't convince voters in your own state to apportion your own votes according to your own state's popular vote, you certainly won't be able to get your state to agree to a Constitutional amendment, either the Congressional vote for it or the subsequent national vote. Talk about "meaningless."

Thanks for the link.

My observation was that having the two halves of the country at
eachothers' throats is not a good situation. Both saying
the others are all hypocrits, cheats, liars etc -Americans are just
handing my country the win.
The "win" isnt to discount the reality of this by quibbling over
whether its exactly half and half.

Here’s your reminder that “Party of Personal Responsibility” is only a bumper sticker slogan, the party that says that will blame someone else for everything they do.
Both parties are incapable of personal responsibility. However, Democratic Party has been delegitimizing our elections since Bush/Gore....possibly earlier. Maybe since Reconstruction.

And you don't see an issue there in the 2000 election? Interesting.

That is precisely why Capt. Picard always said "Make it so".

Had to look that up, not being a fan of star barf.

"It so" is the only thing "precisely" the same,
tho in no pariticular way related.

But never mind,i just thought you might
have something in mind.

1) The Democrats don’t claim to be the party of personal responsibility. Republicans do. Is it really too much to ask for a political party to hold up the standard it proclaims?

2) Republicans deligitimized the 1960 election by claiming it was stolen from them. Particularly Illinois.

3) Maybe the Republicans have been a part of a German plot to take over America since the 1910s. I can make up insane conspiracies as well.

I've heard that Republicans undermined the American Election of 1099AD when the Magna Carta was signed.
