Wow....all of them combined are out raising Trump. I bet combined my 4 nearest neighbors make more money that I do .....
The president has blown past individual Democratic presidential campaigns in fundraising for his 2020 reelection bid. But the crowded primary field together more than tripled his 2019 cash haul, according to a CNBC analysis of Federal Election Commission filings and campaign statements.
    Your citation....

I’m thinking if Bernie does not get the nomination he will not be dumping his money haul to the winner. I’m thinking none of them will. They will keep that money for another run in 2024 or secure their re-election for the Senate.

Rather a slanted report, although not surprising. When you have over 20 (!) declared candidates of the out-of-power political party as we have had this season...each of them raising money for over a year in advance of the primaries...this leads to a seemingly impressive fundraising total IF you add all of them together.

President Trump, on the other hand, has only token competition for re-nomination.

Neither of the two other election years--2012 and 2004--which were cited by the article had a similar flood of credible challengers to the incumbent president contending with each other for their party's nomination. The comparison, therefore, fails.

The money they raise now is largely to be used against each other, and not directly against Trump just yet.

Gained 40 seats in the House of Representatives in the biggest win since President Nixon’s staff was arrested in connection to a break in at the DNC headquarters at the Watergate Complex overlooking the Potomac River. They could not prove Nixon ordered the wiretapping, but they convinced America he obstructed justice in trying to cover up the crime.

Johnson, Ford, Clinton, and Obama all lost MORE seats in the House in their off-year elections than Trump did in 2018.

That said, let's stick to the topic of this thread.

The thread is about people with money backing the Democratic presidential candidates almost four times as much as people who are backing Trump.

Some people are Independents and switch back and forth between parties from election to election.

George H.W. Bush lost a bid for a second term because he promised not to raise taxes, then raised taxes.

Jimmy Carter lost his bid for a second term after an Islamic revolution in Iran stormed the US embassy in Tehran and took Americans hostage. A US military commando mission to rescue them failed.

Richard Nixon did not finish his second term, but resigned while facing probable impeachment. Gerald Ford pardoned himafter taking his place.

Gerald Ford lost his bid for another term.

Lyndon B. Johnson decided not to run for another term.

John F. Kennedy did not win a second term because a Russian communist sympathizer with a Russian wife named Lee Harvey Oswald killed him days after Oswald shot at an anti-communist US general and missed.

If so, it's not about which party has won the most seats in the House in off-year elections, beginning with the 1960s.

Typically they spend donations as they get them. If they lose the primary elections and have any money left over, they may donate the money to the party national fund.

No, they don't have to return it. Neither do candidates for any lesser office.
