I'm not a big fan of Sheila Jackson Lee, though she is my Congresswoman. I've tended to vote against her in pretty much every election but she is unlikely to be removed by her constituents -- and her district was gerrymandered by the Texas Legislature (at least currently) to include most of the areas that vote Democrat on the north side of Houston.

OTOH, without more information, I'm not going to judge her for this. As others have pointed out, there are any number of reasons why United may have done this (when the reservation was made, frequent flyer status, type of ticket purchased, etc). Instead, it seems that the complaint was someone upset at being bumped out of First Class and who wanted to make this political.

Whether the Elitist Politician demanded the seat, or the Airlines gave the Elitist Politician someone else's seat to curry favor. It's still and example of the rich taking advantage of their position and power.

This reminds me of an even that occurred perhaps a fortnightvago. I was pulling into Chez Henri with my private secretary for dinner. I saw that some hideous car was parked in a spot that I wanted to park in. I believe it was called a 'Kia'.

I phone the local automobile towing service, and after offering them a paltry sum, perhaps $5000, they had that travesty towed, and I believe destroyed, allowing me to make use of the parking spot.

The poors have no business. Just in general, they have no business.

Only people that are concerned with the idea of living in a country that favors political hacks over other citizens. The theory is that in a good and healthy society we will all be treated equally and that a promise given ought to be delivered on. The problem I have here has nothing to do with how much money any particular person may have. Nor that someone was inconvenienced by being made to sit with the peasants. Money is only a medium of exchange and not inherently powerful in itself. It can be exchanged for power but having it does not make one powerful if one does not spend it to accrue power. The problem I have is the wielding of political power for one's personal comfort. I do not believe that this is an isolated incident nor do I think that this is something that is unique to Congressperson Lee or other democrats as I would wager there are similar things one would find involving republicans and independents. From my perspective, At this point in our history, those in offices of political power expect to be treated as superior to the rest of us. They seem to believe they are our betters even though their only qualification for their position is being considered the lesser of two evils by those that can be bothered to express an opinion on the subject.

I hate to read inequities like that. I don't blame the woman for being upset because these types of behaviors harm people. I have family in the medical field who told me congressmen and their families are bumped up ahead of others in the ER. Imagine if your family member was in a serious way and a legislator strolled in and got put ahead of you.

They are no better than anyone else and should not be given preferential treatment. However, I can see why the hospitals and airlines do what they do. Perhaps they fear legislative retaliation of some sort or maybe they are seeking legislative favors?
