Death toll from northwest Nigeria attack doubles to 130

ABUJA (Reuters) - The death toll from an attack last week by gunmen in northwestern Nigeria has doubled to more than 130, the Kaduna state governor said on Tuesday, adding it appeared to have been a deliberate plan to "wipe out certain communities."

Governor Nasir el-Rufai did not elaborate on what he meant. Those killed in last week's attack were mainly from the Fulani ethnic group, who are usually Muslim and have been involved in clashes in recent years with people from the Adara ethnic group, who are predominantly Christian.

El-Rufai told reporters that police were still investigating the motive for the attack in the Kajuru local government area in the south of the state, and there had been arrests. He did not say how many people had been detained

"The more the police dig into this matter, the more it is clear that there was a deliberate plan to wipe out certain communities," he said, adding that the latest report on the incident showed more than 130 people had been killed.

Wow, I didn’t even know about that.

I actually heard about it, it is sad that this doesn't get as much attention as other shootings. I suppose people assume that in war-torn or frequent terrorist attacked countries it shouldn't matter as much...

Christian Post did a piece in June 2018 on the continued genocide.

'Pure Genocide': Over 6,000 Nigerian Christians Slaughtered, Mostly Women and Children
The victims of these latest attacks were predominantly Muslim.

The violence in Nigeria between farmers and ranchers is sometimes between Muslims and Christians, and other times between Muslims and Muslims and Christians and Christians. There are no innocent parties it seems. Here is another example of where Christians slaughtered Muslims in Nigeria way back in 2004:

Nigerian Muslims bury 600 after Christian slaughter

It's not really fair to report what is taking place in Nigeria as a genocide of Christians as the Christian Post has done or Muslims claiming the same, when the atrocities against one another are being equally carried out by both groups.

It made the news cycle and all the major news outlets covered it.
Church bombing coverage.jpg

There were even a couple of threads on it here, but they got very little feedback.
Church bombing coverage2.jpg

That church has seen about a dozen attacks over the past 25 years including other fatal bombings.

There was also an attack at a mosque a couple of days after this latest bombing less than 100 miles away from this church that left 2 dead and 4 injured that got almost no coverage in the western media.

Events like this that occur in western countries, whether they are reported on or not, seem to get a lot more attention and response than those taking place elsewhere in the world. The only reason the violent attacks in Nigeria are getting attention today is because the right needed to find a story to deflect from the fact that a right-wing extremist carried out such a horrific attack in New Zealand. Had the mosque attacks not occurred, nobody would be talking about what's happening in Nigeria. The ironic thing is that most of the victims of the attacks in Nigeria in recent weeks have also been Muslims.
