Many who read the posts here probably think that there are sure a lot of brainwashed posters here.^_^ Trouble is, that it is difficult to detect it in ones self. I found an interesting write-up in wikiHow called 'How to Recognize and Avoid Brainwashing'. It is very informative.

Most people just assume that one who has been afflicted with this is just one who cannot maintain the logic to hold their position together, but will still hold to their position with a mental death-grip when challenged. This is an over simplistic understanding as there are more complex reasons why the victim holds so tightly.

I have discovered the method of brainwashing a New Zealander - fill up his gumboots with water! Brainwashing an Aussie might be a little more difficult - you might have to find it first!!

I think that problem with our Antipodean relatives is more that whatever was used to do the washing may have been a little bit too much on the caustic side.

It's concussion because of the corks on the hat hitting the head all the time when it is windy.

When subjects such as abortion and marriage/divorce are viewed through a mistaught religious lens, it is very easy for others with no stake in the subject, to see.

Consider the subject of divorce. Many Christians are limp in their feelings of a marriage staying together if the husband is a wife beater. Even though the New Testament only gives 2 reasons for Christians; The non-believing spouse divorcing them for not giving up Christianity and the 1st century pagan temple worship [fornication].

Many Christians become extremely stoic when the subject turns to abortion. They totally ignore the logic one tries to show them of their distorted scriptures that they present as their evidence. Under no circumstance is abortion not murder.... they believe. Some claim if the mother's life is at stake, then it it would not br murder to abort.

The glaring inconsistencies show that there has been some brainwashing involved with these 2 subjects and there are a number of others as well.

Hi Cuddles,

So, what is the best source of information by which "brainwashed" Christians should alleviate themselves of their delusive condition?

Read and research your own and opposing views. Attempt to do so without bias, in an attempt to learn. Don't discount other facts...problem is, some Christians don't ever want to look at facts...especially about the abortion issue. That's always an interesting topic to get into, delve into the history of the "pro-life" movement, when, where and why it was started, find out that 50% of all pregnancies ended in abortion in the late 19th and early 20th century when abortion was once again legal. Find out why abortion and contraception were outlawed. VERY interesting if one has an open mind and researching to learn.

Ok. That I can do. In fact, I already have. ;) So, I guess I don't have to worry about being "brainwashed" then. What a relief!

Peace,

I agree with your sentiments about abortion, but after 10 years of working as a Ministry of Justice Victim Advisor, dealing with domestic violence victims, and two of my clients murdered by their abusive husbands, I would have no hesitation in supporting a wife leaving an abusive husband. An abusive and violent husband has broken the marriage contract, making that marriage null and void even though the couple are still together. The scripture says "Husbands love your wives and respect them as the weaker vessel." As soon as a husband becomes abusive and violent, the marriage is effectively over and the wife is quite free to separate, and if the husband refuses to get help and change his ways, then divorce is the most practical option. Domestic violence never goes away. It gets worse and often ends up in the wife getting badly injured or killed. Take it from someone who is experienced at dealing with victims.

Saying stuff based on interpretations of fairly unclear references out of their natural context, discouraging abused wives, in danger of their lives, is a very unkind and unfair way of dealing with vulnerable church members.
