  6. We are no longer allowing posts or threads that deny the existence of Covid-19. Members have lost loved ones to this virus and are grieving. As a Christian site, we do not need to add to the pain of the loss by allowing posts that deny the existence of the virus that killed their loved one. Future post denying the Covid-19 existence, calling it a hoax, will be addressed via the warning system.

Nah, I view Matthew 24 as referencing to a.d. 70 but understand Revelation more like a Historicisit. I can see some recapitulating of events like the idealist view but not with consistency or without some major problems. The folks I attend church with are Presbyterian and most of them, those willing to talk abut eschatology are Postmil Preterists. They recommended the book to me and after reading it I can see why. It is technical, but you will have a much better understanding of their position after reading it.

interesting. i remember on my first go around with Christianity I was attracted to preterism because I was surrounded by 'end timers' who loved to use revelation to support their point. I was never able to really fully embrace it though. Revelation is so 'out there' one can have trouble making heads or tails of it. it's good to be knowledgeable about all views so i applaud your research! :)

    Thanks gord.

Chilton present a lot of facts, history and nuances to Judaism that I'm not sure even first century Jews would have understood. We assume they knew but if believers then are anything like now, even when compared to modern zealous believers, it becomes apparent that we assume too much. I still would recommend Chilton's work but have a hard time believing the Christians of the first century knew every detail and meaning of the ritual and prophecies of the Old Testament. Polycarp seems to intimate that antichrist was yet future. Are they any church fathers who put forth the modern Preterist (and by Preterist I refer to orthodox/partial Preterism) view?

Scripture interprets scripture. Scripture also interprets history as we see in Daniel's visions. I have a hard time believing Revelation has taken place in the past (Preterism) or yet to take place (futurism, Dispensationalism), rather, I see Revelation as unfolding history now. We see Christ conquering through the Gospel, Satan being bound and Christ as King through all of it. What I'm not so sure about is whether Revelation is a history recapitulated or a chronological unfolding. E. B. Elliot's classic work Horae Apocalypticae explains how THE PROTESTANT ESCHATOLOGY was exchanged for Preterism (see wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Preterism) or Futurism (wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Francisco_Ribera), both creations of Jesuits to remove the identity of antichrist from papal Rome.

It's all very edifying, to God be the glory, amen.

Found a couple of interesting resources the other day, might check em out:

Handbook of Prophecy by James Stacy

Biblical Government versus the Beast by Greg Price

Few other works on these pages, but you'll spot them with ease. I really need to take some time and work though the handbook, too many of my relatives are into prophecy, and might be helpful, if I could contribute more to a conversation, problem though is, I know me and my relatives disagree before I ever start, have to just 'hold my peace' sometimes to have peace.

    Looks interesting. Probably Historicist.

Let's face it, either the Pope/Papacy is what it says it is, or it's antichrist. We can't take a middle of the road approach to it. Either the Pope/Papacy stands in place of Christ until He returns (keys and all) or the Pope/Papacy is teaching a false religious system.

Wow! Almost 800 pages. I tend towards Amil but admit I find problem passages for all the views.
