Is there anything biblical preventing Christians from keeping the Day of Atonement (aka:Yom Kippur). It starts at sunset on the 11th and goes through til sunset of the 12th. It's in Lev. 16:29-34 btw. I have strange reasons and a sincere desire to know. Thanks. Peace be with you.

There is a difference between "keeping" and "observing." I and my family (and most Messianics) will be "observing" it with fasting, praying and intercession. It is a "moed," or appointed time. (a fast cannot be a "feast" as most english versions render that word) As a moed, God has said it is an appointment to meet with us.

As I said in the other thread, the central event of Yom Kippur has been done by Messiah with His own Blood.

Here's is a good sermon series about Yom Kippur and the other appointed times:

http://rabbiyeshua.com/resources/latest-items/moedim-festivals

Many of the feasts involve having access to the temple, so I'd agree that there is a difference between observing and keeping them. However, when Israel was in exile, the condition for their return was to turn back to obedience to God's law, which included God's feasts while they didn't have access to the temple, so God counted doing what they could do as keeping them.

And He is .... ! Is there somewhere that can be looked up , since numbered and all? Thanks
Most of his sermons get posted. None from this series are up yet, and I am sure #1 was not recorded (Grace is Amazing) since we had to change venues at the last minute due to a scheduling conflict and we had to scrounge up a PA system.

But if/when they become available (look for them over the next couple of weeks) it will be here:

Keeping? What do you mean?

The Christians are not required to keep the feasts. The first council of Jerusalem recorded in Acts 15 tells us we are not required to keep the law of Moses. Paul tells us in his writings in a continuous theme that the ceremonial laws pointed to Christ and His ministry.

The central element in every OT feast was the sacrifice. That has been fulfilled by Christ's sacrifice. More specifically for SDA's, we are the 7th month movement, the month of Tishri. Tishri 10th, the day of atonement has began to be fulfilled by Christ when He began His ministry in the Most Holy place in the heavenly sanctuary in 1844.

Revelation 14: The hour of His judgement has come. This should be studied, and must be understood by all SDA's. We are living in the anti typical day of atonement. We must be constantly doing what the Jews of old did on that day. Afflicting our souls before God and confessing and repentance. That is why the Lord has not come yet. That is why the church is so devoid of God's blessings today.

There are no earthly priests any more - see Hebrews 7
There are no animal sacrifices any more - see Hebrews 10.
There is no "observance" of the Day of Atonement defined in Lev 16 without those two key elements.

But "should we remember it" ? Should we review the lessons that it teaches? I think that is great!

But it would be wrong to think that such custom-tailored at-will remembrances are the Lev 16 "keeping" of it.

Maybe not required, but allowed. They are God's appointments.
The first council of Jerusalem recorded in Acts 15 tells us we are not required to keep the law of Moses.
Only applicable to gentile believers. Jews are still required to do so.

Jesus died as the final sacrifice for sin, which the day of atonement prefigured, along with all other sacrifices for sin. Keeping, or observing any feast day that pointed to Jesus death on the cross would be to nullify, or make of none effect Jesus sacrifice on the cross. The catholic church does it every week. Although there are no bible verses except when they decided to only put on the gentiles a few simple observances, of which the feast days were not included, the meaning of all the sacrifices and feast days was Jesus. These are what Paul wrote about in Colossians 2:14-17. These are the "handwriting of ordinances" Moses wrote in a book according to Deuteronomy 31, that were "nailed to His cross".

Furthermore for a gentile to want to be a jew is quite odd.

Of course the Jews are still under the law because they don't have Jesus.
You did not read what I said: Jewish believers; those who believe in Yeshua/Jesus.

Go read the Acts 21 exchange between Paul and James. The Acts 15 decree was not understood to include Jewish believers.

You need to read the book of Galatians without preconceived ideas to see what Paul thought on this subject, not just from the Greek believers point of view, but from salvation and dispensation point of view.

In Galatians, Paul wrote to gentiles. No need to list the case for Jewish believers.

Jerusalem was a different story. According to James, "myriads" of Jews had come to faith in the Lord. They wanted Paul's head for telling believing Jews to forsake Moses. James references the Acts 15 decree and reiterates that it applied only to Gentiles.

BTW: it is in Galatians that Paul says he was entrusted and approved by the 12 with the "gospel to the uncircumcised;" while Peter, James, et al, were given the "gospel to the circumcised." While it is one gospel in doctrine, they are different in application.
