Proverbs 31
http://www.christianforums.com/bible/proverbs/31/

31 The words of king Lemuel; the oracle which his mother taught him.
2 What, my son? and what, O son of my womb? And what, O son of my vows?
3 Give not thy strength unto women, Nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings.
4 It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; Nor for princes [to say], Where is strong drink?
5 Lest they drink, and forget the law, And pervert the justice [due] to any that is afflicted.
6 Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, And wine unto the bitter in soul: 7 Let him drink, and forget his poverty, And remember his misery no more.
8 Open thy mouth for the dumb, In the cause of all such as are left desolate.
9 Open thy mouth, judge righteously, And minister justice to the poor and needy.
10 A worthy woman who can find? For her price is far above rubies.
11 The heart of her husband trusteth in her, And he shall have no lack of gain.
12 She doeth him good and not evil All the days of her life.
13 She seeketh wool and flax, And worketh willingly with her hands.
14 She is like the merchant-ships; She bringeth her bread from afar.
15 She riseth also while it is yet night, And giveth food to her household, And their task to her maidens.
16 She considereth a field, and buyeth it; With the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.
17 She girdeth her loins with strength, And maketh strong her arms.
18 She perceiveth that her merchandise is profitable: Her lamp goeth not out by night.
19 She layeth her hands to the distaff, And her hands hold the spindle.
20 She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; Yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.
21 She is not afraid of the snow for her household; For all her household are clothed with scarlet.
22 She maketh for herself carpets of tapestry; Her clothing is fine linen and purple.
23 Her husband is known in the gates, When he sitteth among the elders of the land.
24 She maketh linen garments and selleth them, And delivereth girdles unto the merchant.
25 Strength and dignity are her clothing; And she laugheth at the time to come.
26 She openeth her mouth with wisdom; And the law of kindness is on her tongue.
27 She looketh well to the ways of her household, And eateth not the bread of idleness.
28 Her children rise up, and call her blessed; Her husband [also], and he praiseth her, [saying]: 29 Many daughters have done worthily, But thou excellest them all.
30 Grace is deceitful, and beauty is vain; [But] a woman that feareth Jehovah, she shall be praised.
31 Give her of the fruit of her hands; And let her works praise her in the gates.

I think the women who were strong and kind had much better run households then the ones who did not. They worked hard and did so much. They complimented their men and were praised and made to feel well about themselves. The proverbs 31 woman was truly remarkable in every way.

Praising the virtuous woman...

10 Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.
11 The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.
12 She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.
13 She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.
14 She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar.
15 She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.
20 She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.
21 She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet.
24 She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.
25 Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.
26 She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.
27 She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.
30 Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised. - Proverbs 31

Proverbs 31 is probably about my fav'rite chapter of Proverbs......it has such depth to it, and God actually "spells out" (describes perfectly) what a Godly woman is, and in addition He emphasizes again, what He finds righteous and just, in verses 8 and 9:

8 "Open thy mouth for the dumb in the cause of all such as are appointed to destruction." (this is speaking out and defending those who cannot speak for, or defend themselves - as in the helpless, and in particular, the most helpless of all and most vulnerable, the pre-born babies)

9 "Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy." (This, again means to open our mouth and speak out for those who are being oppressed, abused, discounted, and cast aside.)

In verse 20 there is the description of a Godly woman's heart and character:

20 "She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy." (she RESPONDS in compassion to those who are in need. She is genuinely gracious and kind.)

in verse 26 there is the description of what comes forth from her mouth, and it is a reflection of the genuine kindness deep in her heart, and consequently the wisdom she embodies...she is a walking, breathing, "blessing":

26 "She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness."

And in verse 28, we have her children rising up and calling her bless-ed, and her husband also, and he praises her. This is a "standing ovation". Hahahaaaa! LOVE it!! (God is AWESOME, isn't He?)

28 "Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her."

AWESOME chapter! Amen!!!

Proverbs 31 is amongst my favorite chapters in the Bible. There is a description of a Godly woman, described by God Himself. It goes further in verses 8 and 9 to emphasize what God has repeatedly stated throughout His Word about responding to and defending those who are cast down, in dire straits, and headed for deadly destruction, such as the oppressed who are possibly headed for death. What also came to mind for me, is the deaths of pre-born babies. They have no voice, no defense, and are in dire need of someone speaking out for and defending them.

"Open thy mouth for the dumb in the cause of all such as are appointed to destruction. Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy."

 i LOVE all of Proverbs 31.

It is perhaps one of the most profound, confirming, and descriptive chapters and God's very own description of a Godly woman.

She is full of wisdom, and kindness, and strength, and is a blessing to her husband and her children and household,. and they rise up and call her bless-ed, in essence, giving her a standing ovation.

Precious.
