• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

My 11 yr old daughter takes 20ml.Adderal a day for her ADD.Atleast that's what the doctor says she has.She gets really loud, obnoxious, and hyper if she doesn't have her meds. She also can't concentrate on her schoolwork or perform normal everyday tasks without it.It's like she's in la-la land if we forget to give it to her.

I don't know why she's like this or how she got this way.I'm just wondering if it will ever go away.I hope so.Does anyone know if her condition will go away or get better?I hate having to give her this medicine.Poor thing.:(

She also has trouble getting to sleep.I hear her now stirring in her bed, fidgetting. It's after 11:00pm.She sometimes lays in bed till 12:00am and is up and down going to the restroom or getting band-aids,etc..Much like her dad.I can't get to bed early either. And when I do get to sleep,I automatically wake up after 6-7 hours.I can't sleep in.My eyes are always tired and burning.

I don't know if she inherited this from me or if it's the meds keeping her awake. We've tried to vary the dosage. Any insight would be appreciated.:prayer:

Make sure you give her the medicine as early in the morning as possible. No nothing with caffiene after school, that includes chocolate. Get an essential oil nebulizer and put lavender essential oil in it after dinner. The lavender oil isn't expensive and a little bit goes a long way. It helps make you relax and get drowsy. That includes you too, Dad.

I get my oils from Nanda.com, they are very high quality and very reasonably priced! I got my nebulizer from Trilight.com or Trilight Herbs.com. It cost me about $40

Have you tried giving her coffee throughout the day? A friend's son has it really bad and they give him coffee and it makes him almost sleepy.

Let me know how it goes?

Good night and God bless!

I looked in the find all posts thing in your profile. I wanted to give you some rep, but I can't yet.

The lavender should help with the sleep problem. I put a little in a mixture I made for headaches and I almost fell asleep at the computer, so I went to bed and took a nap.

i cant give advice but i can sympathise! I was like this when i was younger, but a lot more voilent too! At least she is getting medication. Also is she getting help at school? It is hard on parents. She needs to learn to concentrate early if she has that problem - it carries on into adulthood. I cant concentrate for toffee!. (im at uni and it is hard) i was never diagnosed but my mum suspected, and when she had talked to other parents with kids with the same behaviour.... (though she suspects i had adhd). i also had a form of deafness (went away - was related to glue ear but different) which didnt help.

Carry on with the medication, if it doesnt work, go ask your doctor, ask them if there are some natural medicines/vitamins/minerals you can use with the normal one (but be careful).
And she will still need help at school to bring out her full potential, ADD kids (and adults) are just as smart or even maybe smarter than other kids but sometimes their full potential doesnt come out, cos its not recognised.

Most important: be patient!! my parents were great, though i used to drive em up the wall. Its best to go ask doctors or proffessional speacialist for advice. And talk to God a lot :prayer: . I will pray for you all too!

I just came across a book by Henry W. Wright. It's called "A More Excellent WaY". This author has a healing ministry. He believes that ADD/ADHD may be related to a double mindedness ( James 1:8) that occurs when the home is ruled by the famale instead of the male and the confusion that comes out of this is also at the root of dyslexisa, and homosexuality. It's like a curse or spirit of confusion. He has had lots of success at delivering children from ADD but not a lot with adults. I think it might be worth it for you to read this book. (I havn't read the whole book yet but I've glanced through the section on ADD.) You can find his church at www.pleasantvalleychurch.net.

The long-term effects of drug experimentation with chldren with ADD can be very negative. You can already see that drugs are not an effective way to treat this disease. There are other ways to treat ADD but they take a lot more effort on everyone's part. I believe there is deliverence from ADD.

As for not sleeping at night, there is also a section in this book for that. I think your family may be in need of spiritual deliverance. There may be a spirit of fear and anxiety or a spirit of torment opperating in your lives. See proverbs 3:24. God intends for our sleep to be sweet. Your body will not let you sleep if you are anxious or afraid about tomorrow, even if it is sub-consious fear.

I pray the best for you and your daughter. I don't no much about ADD but I know that as Christians we are set free and redeemed from all of the curse of the law. Theres no reason that we should accept sickness and disease.

ADD/ADHD comes from a lot of different things. It can be hereditary, environmental, etc. There are so many different forms of ADD that most people don't realize. There are at least six types (levels of severity) of ADHD, alone. In most cases, the nuerotransmitters in the brain won't fire correctly. This causes obvious problems. I'm not an advocate of putting our children on drugs as a first resort to this disorder. It should be a last resort because of the long-term harm that can be done to the body. I've been taking medicine for ADHD for many years and am blessed that my body has faired well. As a christian, I believe that all can be healed. I also believe that there are reasons for everything. I'm not saying that God made me ADHD. What I am saying is that my life experience with ADHD has enabled me to be of support to many others in their healing process. Most ADDers don't sleep as much as the normal person would. I don't know many who sleep more than four to five hours a night. Our brains just don't want to slow down and rest. One thing that you will find about your daughter is that she is highly intelligent. It's because people who are ADD/HD retain everything. We just don't recall it as fast. If you have any questions...please, fell free to ask me...

God Bless...
