Don't know where I'm going in life, who I am, what my purpose is, I'm not even sure I know Jesus for sure, I feel like I've felt God's presence and him talking to me in the past but I never know for sure.. I read those passages about God's "soft spoken" voice but you do I understand a lot of what is in the bible is metaphor but I keep having these doubts if God is really real and the things in the bible are really his "word" or if designed cleverly by some kind of mark twain + einstein guy.. I can't get past these doubts! DOUBTS DOUBTS DOUBTS! They are the chains that enslave me that I cannot break even by praying to God 1000x times about it and last week I got rebaptised but I just feel like crap.. I had sex with a prostitute, and lately after working all night I've been taking a few swigs of whisky before bed. I still listen to bible study and the bible but don't really understand a lot of it and I think always read it with some doubts and skepticism in my mind and I think during this process my soul dies a little bit more and feel each day my chance at salvation is slipping away or already gone and there's nothing I can do about it.

If it's any consolation, most people around you are feeling things similar to what you're feeling and the things you have been tempted by, even if not in exactly identical ways. But, simply feeling doubt isn't a sin, rather it's simply human and shouldn't be seen as the same thing as 'disbelief.'

I've had feelings in the past where I felt my moral self and/or my salvation seemingly "slipping away," but I've come to realize that what is happening is that the elements of the world (sinful elements) are corrosive to my belief in Christ and I have to daily and weekly renew my willingness to follow and explore this thing called Christianity.

Is it a "thing" though? Is God metaphorical in himself? And it scares me to even ask that because after what I've read about God someone questioning him like that basically I may as well be tied to a brimstone on the bottom of the sea.
How does one learn to hear God and know the difference between God, some other divine force below God, evil, or your own mind? I know a lot in the bible is metaphoric but I hope Jesus isn't himself, I hope that he walked in real physically and really did all that what was said was said but I don't have "faith" in it I don't think. There's a difference between hope and faith right? Or are they one in the same? Maybe a better word is beyond all my humanly sinly desires I DO desire Jesus and a world like everything he hoped for where everyone was at peace and there was no evil.. It's just a matter of the lack of faith and all the doubts that has me slippin and I feel it's one of those falls I might break my neck this time, then I'm worm food and burning for eternity when I feel like I'm burning already but I guess I don't know the meaning yet. How long more do I have to suffer? How long more do I have to walk on this earth not only alone and isolated from my own kind (humans) lacking any friendships or relationship although I've tried.. but my creator and redeemer I lack as well!? Oh now I gone done and lost though because now I'm a victim.. I lack the truth and I'm just sorry victim. Dangit dangit

You should serve God and his children. That way you can be filled with the Holy Spirit which will purge you of sinful desires and awaken you that God is real and does exist.

Dude, even prisoners get saved by grace. I highly suggest you watch the testimony from El Salvador ex convicts (YOUTUBE).

Always remember what Jesus had to die for.

Out flesh is filthy but the Spirit is sanctified the moment we believe Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior. When we die it's our Spirit which goes up to heaven, not our flesh. Remember that no one is going to die perfect, I'll die as a sinner so will you.

So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. The reason why you're struggling right now is because the spirit is in work with you, it's battling the desires of your flesh. I just want you to know that you're not alone, all Christians go through that and it's great to see you being guilty because it shows that you have a repentant heart. The Holy Spirit in you is at work, don't grieve it.

mercy=I'll forgive you even if you don't deserve it
GRACE= I'll forgive you, and at the same time give you the gift of eternal life (through Jesus Christ) that you don't deserve.
note: but grace is not a license for you to sin (ex.I'm gonna cheat on my wife, I'm saved anyways). 1John.2. [1] My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And ifany man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: [2] And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins ofthe whole world.

What you lack is 'faith', my dear brother.
    Faith=believing;trusting
Believe in the power of prayer, trust that God will solve your problems for you
Ask for peace, wisdom, and faith from God. He's always listening to you.

You know what, I fell in unbelief last year when I was first starting out as a Christian. I also started questioning and doubting things because most of the stories from bible was hard for me to believe. Like, what if this isn't the truth, what about the quran and buddhism and other beliefs?

But I totally understand you, that's why I have to warn you; KEEP THE FAITH NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS, If you fall from grace and little by little also fall away from your faith in God, that means the devil's got you in his trap.

Guess what happened to me because I doubted my faith in God and discontinued reading the bible? I didn't grow in faith. I was led astray by dem evil spirits or something. I started following my own (like the blind person I was before I became a believer), watched videos here and there and was directed in a cult. Well, I didn't know I was in a cult til God picked me up again and straightened my path again.

But forreal tho, the devil works in our mind. Their work is to make our lives miserable, saved or not. In devil's teaching, it teaches that darkness is okay BUT if you read the bible you'll read that there is no darkness in Jesus Christ. See the contrast there?...Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. In the bible it says that in order for you to follow Christ, you must first deny yourself.

Maybe the reason why you're feeling lost right now is because you can't deny yourself and is still holding on to worldly knowledge. Once I let go of my identity everything suddenly made sense to me. All questions answered when I read the bible.

God's working on you, but so is the devil. My pastor in school said that most things have spirits in them so that we should be careful what we feed our minds with, what our eyes see, what music we listen to, etc. ....Believe me that when you say "Jesus is Lord, and I rebuke evil spirits around me, beside me, inside me in Jesus' name" all the bad spirits around you will go away. Surround yourself with 'good' things and keep away from 'evil' so that you won't get distracted.

After my experience with the cult I started reading the bible. What made the difference between me reading it before and now is my FAITH. Trust me, the bible is more than just a book. It's a manual for your present life and for your life to come. It tells you what you should and shouldn't do. Gives you wisdom, more than the wisdom this world could offer.

Watch testimonies in youtube, it will edify your faith. Listen to Christian music (I personally like these songs: Lead Me Lord, I smile by kirk franklin, Won't He Do It, WANNA Be Happy by Kirk Franklin, How Great Thou Art, My Saving Grace by Jona*Mariah, Amazing Grace, etc..)

Find someone, a fellow christian to help keep you on track. Nothing is going to happen to your faith if you don't do the reasearch yourself (with prayer ofc). What I mean by reaserch is research of the Word of God. One mistake I did when starting out is that I read every passage as if the message was directed to me. But that isn't the case at all!

I suggest reading books from the bible that are meant for those who are already Christians or books for wisdom.

Soak this in: 7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye. shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: 8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh. findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

As a Christian philosopher, I don't feel any guilt whatsoever to sit here and admit that some, if not many, interpretations given by other Christians about the nature of the Christian faith seem … deficient to me. And while I don't think God is metaphorical in Himself, this doesn't mean we can't or shouldn't explore the “meaning” of it all; it may be that some things God has told us were given in metaphorical terms and those metaphors are meant to point to a substantive reality just outside of our current moment or place.

… like anything else, some amount of this discernment comes by training through learning how to do it. This learning won't solve everything; in some ways, it'll be like you're a detective, with there always—always--being new situations and angles that you and I will have to consider or reconsider. It's just the reality of being a limited human being with limited perspective and limited ways we can assess the world around us.

If there's anything to doubt, one of those things to doubt would be that Jesus himself is a “metaphor”; however, His being a 'symbol' of God the Father who came into our world could be a meaningful way of thinking about Jesus, even if it doesn't exhaust all of Who Jesus is.

No, they're different, but when Paul speaks of Christian Hope, he's not using the word to refer to the kind of notion we have today of 'hope' where we doubt something.

It sounds to me more like you're just having some emotional struggles and need some encouragement. It's not easy facing this ugly, immoral world all alone and single.

There's a reason it's written in the bible, “...it is not good that man should be alone.” It really does mean that, even if it is a metaphor for a larger truth. In your case, you a partly a victim of your circumstances and of a world that tries to shape you and goad you. Keep that in mind. Your responsibility is to do what you can to grow as a person and to gradually overcome the world in Christ.

    Peace

Brother, sounds like you've got a bad case of the twisted scripture and damaged dogma blues.

Come on over to the Controversial Christian Theology forum and discover the true gospel of universal salvation. God doesn't gotta whup His son to death to forgive you and if you don't respect that you're gonna burn forever. That's poison, man. Jesus went to the cross to show God will go to any and all lengths to save you no matter how bad it gets. He wants to show you He loves you warts and all, and what's more His grace can fix your soul. Unconditional. Once your eye is clear it all starts working for the good. Solid rock. WHO HE IS.

So don't be carrying false burdens or sucking up leavens of Pharisees. Christ came to free you from that rubbish.

Good on you for being honest. You need to keep it really simple. Jesus is a real Person, known to history. He really did die and rise again. That is not metaphorical. The reason He died is so that you may be forgiven of all your sins, failures, defeats and everywhere that you fall short of God's glory. Jesus died for you. He rose again from the dead so that you could be born again. You do not need to understand it all. You do need to accept that Jesus died and rose again for you personally. I suggest that you read John's gospel. It was written especially so that we might believe. Confess all your doubts and fears to God. One man cried out to Jesus, "Lord, I believe. Help me with my unbelief". You can do the same. The only thing that God requires from you in honesty. Ask for help and keep on asking. God will come through for you.

Father, I pray that You will help Bcs90 "prove all things, and hold fast that which is good" (1Th 5:21) in regards to these posts above. May they find that one that can truly guide them in Your Word, and may they gain that faith "of a bulldog" that holds on to trust in Your written Word, accompanied by a great thirst for Your Word. Romans 10:17; John 8:32; Psalms 119:97. Amen

How do I know he died for me? I really wish I knew 100% but then the doubts come in like "Maybe he didn't really want to die for "me" specifically" but it was more of a "Dangit guess I gotta save Bcs90 too.." thing.

    Hello Friend,
The devil is always searching to destroy, he hates when we believe in Jesus and will do everything he can to pull us away from God, especially by using doubt as a weapon of destruction.
    Lets dig into this:
We know Jesus died for each and everyone one of us, verses like:
“Because Christ also suffered for sins once, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God; being put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit;”
    ‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭3:18‬ ‭Prove that point.
When God ordered Adam and Eve to not eat the forbidden fruit or else terrible things out happen, it was not a metaphor but instead it was a literal punishment that would occur. We cannot not doubt that their disobedience caused sin to enter the world , because when God gave a command yet His children disobeyed damnation onto mankind as well as to the earth, occurred just as He said it would
God never changes what He says stands through tall time, so if Jesus said He came to die for us then there is no metaphor but he literally came to die for us. Just like Adam and eves choice affected all of mankind likewise Jesus died for each and everyone of us. We know Jesus died for us 100percent because He said so Himself, and if He didn’t come to die to save everyone then that would make him a liar and not God and that is most definitely not the case. Throughout all scripture God is consistent and always loyal to his promises, just as never flooding the whole earth again, His son would come and die for us, etc. God always fulfills His promises, in Joshua 21:45 it says “Not one of all the Lord’s good promises to Israel failed; every one was fulfilled” Jesus is faithful.

In regards to you’re saying the Bible is metaphorical and you hope Jesus isn’t Himself, don’t worry brother it isn’t. First off, I heard the late Pastor John Muncy ( you should watch his videos on YouTube they are amazing and really helped build my faith) being asked the same question you are asking, if the Bible is mostly metaphorical and the answer is NO. He said the Bible should always be taken literally Of course verses where it says “ faith as big as a mustard seed,” is a metaphor but that is to make a literal statement, to have faith. The word of God is true and if it were metaphorical then it could easily be refuted as true. The Bible is not a piece of poetry using metaphors but instead it is the living word of God. So when you read the Bible take it from a literal sense. Take the birth of Christ for example, that is by no means a metaphor, Jesus was actually literally born unto a virgin just like the prophecy stated. And historical facts prove the existence of Jesus not even atheists decline the fact that Jesus did live. He was literally born, this is just one example why the Bible should be taken literally. The plagues that we’re sent on Egypt and the Pharoh were not metaphors but literally happened. I hope this helps ❤️

Also distinguishing between God, evil, or your mind. All you have to do is go by yourself . And pray that the Lord would cast off any demons and just speak to God. I have done this and prayed for God speak to me and I’d open the Bible and it was on the perfect verse corresponding to exactly what u was going through, that is also how God can speak to you and when you flip to the perfect verse that relates to you that is by no means a coincidence but the work of The Lord, just like human creation was not a coincidence by evolution but The work of The Lord creating us

Jesus loves you so much and you can talk to Him anytime. Fast, journal, read the word, and pray to Him and He will show you things❤️

I have been in countless psychology, philosophy, and science courses where they refute the fact that Jesus is Lord and the Professors always ask me , “ how are you always so cheerful” and I tell them “ The Lord is my joy” and they can not fathom that. I have seen how real God is just by praying to Him and Him guiding me to scriptures and giving me peace. I’ve lost a lot of loved ones and have had a lot of trauma but I never stopped believing in Him and I’m glad I didn’t because without Him I don’t know what I would have done especially through those terrible trials.

I felt that The Lord put it on my heart to message you , I hope this helps dear friend Lord bless you

You are, undoubtedly, God's child. You are just struggling, like we all do.

I'm gonna suggest something which might be controversial.

Get access to see the series "Jesus of Nazareth". It's one of the best depictions of Jesus' life that I've seen. I think that you can see the entire series for free on YouTube ...

What is especially relevant for you is how Jesus patiently disciples Simon Peter, who struggled as His follower, but who, in time, became one of Jesus' greatest champions.

If you'd prefer to study the Bible to gain this understanding, ... concentrate on Jesus' interaction with Peter in the gospels (i.e. Matthew, Mark, Luke, John), ... and how Peter goes on to serve Christ after Jesus' return to heaven in the book of Acts.

Beyond that, it sounds as if you also need to place yourself in the company of brothers who will hold you accountable ... and who will hold you up. You can usually find this in a local church, but also in certain christian ministries, like missions to the homeless, etc. Not particularly saying that you need what such a ministry provides, ... but that you can partner with the men who are involved in such a ministry, gaining through association with them ... and helping to provide a very needed service to humanity.

Sheesh, have you been reading my biography? Tell me one person who is worthy of God's love? Tell me one person who has met God's requirements? Only the Lord Jesus. Have a look at John 3:16. Change your name (for a moment) to "whoever". Lord Jesus died for sinners. Do you qualify? I sure do. Let's not drag God down to our level of love. He is way above our shallow and selfish ideas of love. God loves all people equally. That's because He IS love. So yes, He loves you.

Doubt and disobedience go together. Sin will open the door for spirits of unbelief and confusion. I first pray that you will be cleansed from all sexual sin, and that you will be freed from alcohol. But I also pray for a born again experience from the Lord that will set you free in all ways.

P.S. Just a thought but you might want to listen to personal, down and "dirty", testimonials of people on the Precious Testimonies You Tube Channel. They can be very encouraging and inspirational. You can hear of people freed from problems you have struggled with, and much more, like multiple drug addictions, horrific childhoods, satanism, you name it.

Praying for you. The thing which you can and must do is break your commitment to your flesh in repentance. You're conflicted over whether you want to serve Christ or sin- and until you die to sin and surrender to Christ to be His disciple with no conflict of interest, you're going to be a double-minded, tormented man with the only other way out being to conclude the Bible isn't true and/or doesn't require you to really forsake all your sins and live a holy life in subjection to its commands and instructions. You are on the path to that and you are indeed in great danger; I hope and pray that you'll come to your senses, put on the brakes, and turn around to suffer for the sake of Christ that you may actualize His purpose of saving you from your sins (not in them).

John 12:24-26: "24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. 25 He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal. 26 If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour."

James 1:21-27: "21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. 22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. 23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: 24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. 25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed. 26 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain. 27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world."

There is nothing wrong with having doubts or questions. The sin is in doing nothing to find the answers.
Far cleverer people than you orI have had doubts and asked questions about God, Jesus and the bible and they have found answers.

check out coldcasechristianity or creation.com( they stand by the authority and accuracy of the bible so have articles about these questions ) for logical arguments try reasonablefaith.

Forget 'feeling God presence, that is not a test of anything look at the evidence for God.
