  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have just started to use the Lutheran Service Book, and have a couple of questions:

When getting prepared for matins or vespers I can't seem to find any section of the book for the collect of the day, is this something I would need to find else where, is this only printed in an altar book or something?

Second, I have found a section for psalms in use for daily prayer, but they are the same and very limited. Is there a psalter cycle that spreads them out?

Thirdly, when something is divided into a left/right column, does this denote an option of either/or? In the book of common prayer (in which I learned the daily office) it would say as such.

The daily office is very important to me, and would like to have a working knowledge of the LSB. For the time being, I might just stick with the BCP, or order a copy of the Brotherhood prayer book when I can.

Thanks for any pointers.

Thank you for reccomending the daily prayer book, when I worked in a bookstore, I browsed it and found it to be a decent office book. But t for the time being, I'm going to use the LSB because it is what I have. Would you happen to know the answers to my original questions?

Collect for the day can be found in the Altar Book, but it would have required a lot of space to publish these in LSB.

Yes, you are free to chose one or the other, although one is often for services conducted by laymen, the other by ordained Clergy. Eg.: the benediction; "Lord bless us" is for laymen, and "Lord bless you" is for Clergy.

Thanks for any pointers.

Both TDP and BPB are good; I use TDP.
