Just as a plant needs time to develop a good root system so it can bear fruit, so does a young convert. So Paul warns us that those in leadership should not be a novice. The story of the church and its mission is filled with examples of failed leaders who were appointed to lead. Refreshing Daily in God's Word: Daily Devotion: Maturity and Leadership

Leadership = wisdom.

And wisdom, "Godly" wisdom, by its very definition, is rooted in "humility". For anyone that is "wise", "fears God", and is therefore "humble".

A young believer, if "wise" would reject such an "appointment", for if they, in fact, are "wise" they would only heed/follow "God's" prompting and/or leading. Not "man's", regardless of "who" that man was. They would not be subject or influenced by "flattery", and as a matter of fact, would detect it, and know "who" that flattery is REALLY from.

The bottom line, is that this young believer who is wise would take this "offer" or "appointment" before God, and wait on God about it.

Flattery is man's "Achilles Heel". Only those who "fear the Lord" and thusly are "wise", and recognize flattery for what it is, and "who" it's from, would soundly reject it.

For they already KNOW that this is one of the fiery darts of the enemy.

And they ALREADY have their armor on, that God Himself has admonished us to put on.

And they already know this, by heart:

"Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:" ~I Pet 5:8

And they also know that the devil doesn't always "roar". Sometimes the "roaring" is in a "quieter" form.

And that form is "flattery".

Thank you for a most riveting and thought-provoking study and meditation on this cold and sunny Saturday morning in December, brother.

God bless you.
