My 3rd grader is starting to read the Bible. Every night we go over a section and discuss it.

Not long ago, she took her Bible to bed to read. A little while later, she came out in tears and said something had scared her. I was momentarily terrified she's strayed into Judges or something but it was actually the story of of God reaching down to take Adam's rib that had freaked her out a bit.

I told her that I'd give her some passages to read - Psalm 23, Luke's birth narrative, the parables, etc. I wrote them down on a slip of paper and tucked them in her Bible.

A couple days later we're doing our Bible study and I tell her we're going to cover a parable Jesus taught. I tell her to turn to Matthew and she looks at me dumbfounded.

"Dad, Jesus isn't in Matthew. He can't be!"

"What!? Why do you say that?"

She confidently pulled out the paper. "See, he's BORN in Luke, so how can he be in Matthew?"

I had a good laugh about that and then explained. It's so fun to see the Bible for the first time through a child's eyes.
