It's almost as if historically oppressed minorities have a particular sensitivity to discrimination directed against them.

Ain't identity politics grand? You can be the epitome of privilege and still be "oppressed". Well, we're all more sensitive to criticism when it's our ox being gored. That's just human nature. It's not difficult to understand why Jews would be sensitive to hostile comments toward Jews.

Why, however, would the media be so sensitive to such? It's not as though oppressed and marginalized groups would have any real influence in the media...

Particularly when there is a power imbalance with potential to agitate for or produce violence.
