A New Jersey man who had been in a car accident was arrested and charged with having an arsenal of weapons, as well as white supremacist material, after police spotted the weapons while giving him medical treatment, according to a criminal complaint.

Police then searched his vehicle and found firearms and ammunition, and a search of his home found more than a dozen more weapons, including a grenade launcher, shotguns, rifles with scopes, silencers and high-capacity magazines.

Further, police found meth, about three kilograms of marijuana and about 200 cannabis vape cartridges, the complaint shows.

Rubino is charged with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession of firearms in furtherance of a drug-trafficking crime, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to a complaint.

A racist meth-head with a grenade launcher. Seems like a bad combination.

I do believe, if this guy gets a competent Lawyer, instead of some hack, none of the Charges will stick, the Cops had no legal grounds to search his car, and the search of his house was based upon what they illegally found in his car, both searches therefore are not acceptable in a Court of Law.

You believe incorrectly. Once weapons in plain view were spotted, the police had probable cause.

This would have been covered by the Plain View exception. They had a legitimate reason to enter the vehicle and saw an illegal weapon in the process.

The way the article is written is a little weird. He has white supremacist reading material, but the arrest is just for the guns and drugs, right? While the white supremacy makes him trash, unless his literature was part of a plan to re-enslave African Americans, it seems odd that he would be charged for having that material.

Yep. His choice in literature only gets side-eye, not charges.

I'm curious why the feds are prosecuting this if the NJSP are the people who found all the evidence.

I'm no expert on jurisdiction, but...

The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms was notified.

Authorities subsequently raided Rubino’s home and searched the van – along with a trailer that it was pulling – after obtaining warrants, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito said Tuesday.
...
Carpenito credited the State Police and special agents with the ATF for the investigation leading to the charges

Ah ok. The story I was reading didn't mention the feds being called in.
