Uh oh.....now you've done it!

You've gone and opened the can of worms! ;)

The Trinity has been discussed a lot at King's Tavern, and with everyone moving over here...I'm sure they'd love to share their opinions with all of you! I look forward to hearing all your opinions and responses! :)

No they do not.

I am a Messiannic Jew - a Jew who believe Jesus is the Messiah, and God Himself. The classic definition of Trinity would fit Jewish doctrine, but the idea that there are three gods, does not fit. So what is important in talking with or writing to a Jew is making sure you're communicating the right definition.

In short, I say I believe in the triune nature of God as one God, evident in three clearly distinct person - but the one and the same being. :)

Hey this a cool thread!

To tell you the truth i never talked to a Jew in my whole life(I live in the Philippines so go figure)

I've always wanted to talk and discuss with them about their faith and their traditions which made them stand out from the rest and history can attest that.

I hope that we can have a fun filled discussion here.

Thanks and God bless you all!!!

Just to clarify. Are you telling us that a Messiannic Jew believes that the ONE God has THREE natures that are clearly evident in THREE clearly DISTINCT persons and these THREE poersons are ONE and the SAME beings - meaning they are ALL rolled into ONE?

What are these THREE natures of God? Does your definition mean then that the Father is ALSO the son and ALSO the Holy Spirit?

And you say this definition fits Jewish doctrine?

I would only add to the definition that at the same time, they are also 100% individual in will as well. They exist both as One God as and seperate unto themselves at the same time.

Does your definition mean then that the Father is ALSO the son and ALSO the Holy Spirit?

No, what it means is that these three are who we call God.

But, they are unique unto themselves.

The Father is God
The Son is God
The Spirit is God.
The Father is not the Son
The Son is not the Spirit
The Spirit is not the Father
All three are the same One God.

Shalom,

It depends on which group you are referring to when you say "jews". Typically, Jews do not believe in the trinity.

However, in Messianic Judaism you'll find it just as varied and flavorful as protestant christianity. You'll have Messianics who believe in the trinity and you'll have messianics who stand strongly opposed to the trinity and everything in between.

However, 'messianic jews' make up a very very tiny percentage of "Jews".... fyi.

Shalom,
yafet.

What a Jew's think on any theological subject is affected by whether they are Orthodox, Conservative or Reformed. (I'm sure there are some other distinctions within these basic ones).

Jews that I have spoken with (Reformed) believe that the Messiah is an Age or Era where people learn to live together in peace and harmony, more than they believe it to be a specific person.

They obviously do not believe in the divinity of Christ but that God is one ("Hear O Israel the Lord our God, the Lord is one...").

I have found it to be very interesting to speak with Jews and ask them questions about what they believe. I have found that they are usually willing to discuss spiritual things or religion if I discuss it from a position of "gratitude". After all it is through the Jews that God has hammered out, or communicated to us the basic ideas and structures of how we understand Him and our relationship to Him. Concepts such as covenant, atonement, forgiveness, holiness, righteousness, etc. were communicated to us and to the world through God's covenant and relationship with Israel.

allessandro: Better - Take a pot of Water, bring it to the EDGE of a boil when it begins to steam and throw Ice into it, there you have water in all three states present in ONE> :)

I prefer to use the example of MAN for illistrations of the Trinity. MAN is a trinity of flesh (the Physical self), Mind/Emotions (the electrochemical self), and Spirit ( the transcendant enternal self.)

All three parts make up one man. All three exist in same space at the same time, but they are by purpose and function different. :)

interesting thing about our Jewish brethren concerning the trinity -

the Magna David (star of David) which is the symbol of the Jewish nation confesses the Trinity of man reaching up towards God intersecting with the Trinity of God reaching Down from heaven intersecting at the Cross. :)

ALSO: one of the priestly blessings of the Jews involves the preist placing his hands together with index fingers and thumbs touching to form a triangle with the other fingers splayed except the ring and middle fingers which touch thus the fingers of the hand also confess the trinity - the pinky for the HS, the ring and middle fingers together for Jesus who is both God and man, and the index for the Father. :)
