  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Just wanted to share this wonderful contemporary Catholic song that's being sung at mass with the confirmation students. I love the text. It sounds better in Dutch of course than a quicky translation but... you'll get the idea:

Lord you are my life, the ground on which I stand
Lord you are my way, the truth that leads me
Your word is my path, the way that I go,
As long as you give me breath, as long as I exist
I won't fear anymore, because you are close.
Lord I pray you stay near me.

I believe in you, Lord Jesus, born from the virgin,
Eternal Son of God, who became human under us
You who died from love, you're loving amongst us
One with God the Father and united with your people
till the day is dawning of your your return,
You bring us home in Gods Kingdom

Lord you are my strength, the rock on which I build
Lord you are my truth, the peace of my heart
And nothing in this life, will separate us Lord
So I know safety, because your hand never lets go
Of what I did wrong, you have freed me
and in your forgiveness do I live.

Father of life, I believe in You
Jesus our saviour, we put our hopes in You
Come in our midst, Spirit of love and strength
You who brought us here together along thousand roads
And on thousand roads you send us out again
to be the seed of Gods Kingdom.

That's really nice.

Coming from a Pentecostal background I was immersed in Contemorary Music which is used to raise a lot of emotion, so now I really prefer the old songs that are more commonly sang at Mass. But I still think that Contem. Music is great and has changed a lot of peoples lives.

That's beautiful!
I have no problems with CERTAIN contemp-Christian songs used for Mass, so long as it's appropriate. IE, during or after Communion, "Amazing Love", is ok to play and sing. For those who don't know the words:

I'm forgiven, because You were forsaken.
I'm accepted, You were condemned.
I'm alive and well, Your spirit is within me,
Because You died, and rose again.

Amazing love, how can it be,
That You my King would die for me?
Amazing love, I know it's true.
And it's my joy to honor you.
In all I do, I honor You.

You are my King. Jesus, You are My king (repeat a few times).

Personally I feel that there is a lot of Christian Worship music that works during parts of the liturgy. Matt Mahar is a Catholic artist who has some incredible, liturgical contemporary worship music.

Do I want to release all the old hymns though? No way! I love it all.

Most Contemporary Christian music however is more indicative of a genre of music such as Rock, Pop, etc so it really doesn't belong in liturgy but contemporary worship does. Check out www.worshipmusic.com for samples. Vineyard Music and Maranatha Music as well as Passion and Hosannah have some wonderful works. You do have to check the lyrics sometimes though because the theology can get sketchy at times. A lot of OSAS stuff creeps in periodically. But the vertical music is very solid often taken from old hymns.
ok yes I'm a big fan of christian music...

That's a great "generic" Christian song which all can sing :D
