  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Confused about the commandment that was "abolished." (2)

The difference is that I'm supporting something that God wrote in stone as commandments, whereas you are trying to fight against it. I hope you have the same level of confidence on judgment day
I do have that confidence. It is based on God's Holy Word delivered to mankind thru men called prophets and by Jesus the Christ - God Himself. You?

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

Is that verse true? It is supposed to be spkoen by Jesus the Christ - God Himself. Do you believe or not?

None of those verses say or imply that the ten commandments are abolished. Nice try though
Essentially the prophets make claims the law would end. Jesus the Christ - God Himself said it did by saying - For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

He won't be judged by the law. He is deemed righteous through Christ. For he is sealed. By the HS. not the law.

(For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified (Romans 2:13).

Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city (Revelation 22:14).

Good luck

Adolph Hitler believed in Jesus. That doesn't mean he is in heaven. You can't just take a few verses and ignore all the other verses that talk about obedience to God's commandments. God also tells us to keep His commandments. Do you believe God or not?

To go along with this verse he also said, "Whosoever heareth of me these sayings, and doeth the same, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house on a rock: and abundance of rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that same house, and it was not overthrown because it was grounded on the rock. And whosoever heareth of me these sayings, and doth not the same, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand, and abundance of rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house, and it was overthrown, and great was the fall of it"

These verses came from the same mouth and should be used together, "with your ears ye shall hear, and shall not understand, and with your eyes ye shall see, and shall not perceive"

Not true! Heaven and earth would have to pass away in order for God's holy law to end (Luke 16:17).
No. . .as long as time exists, the Mosaic law with its curse (Gal 3:10) will not pass away until it is accomplished.

Grammatically, you are confusing the time frame of the condition (duration of heaven and earth),
with the condition itself (its fulfillment) for its passing.

Its shadows, copies, patterns (Heb 8:5, 10:1) have been fulfilled/accomplished in Christ (Col 2:17).

The Mosaic law has been set aside (Heb 7:18-19), abolished (Eph 2:15) and replaced with the law of Christ
which is the law of God (1Co 9:20-21; Gal 6:2) and the law of love (Gal 5:6, 14; Jas 2:8; Ro 13:8-10),
accomplishing God's law (1Co 9:21) which now has no curse.

The law of Christ (Ro 13:8-10) with no curse, is not the Mosaic law with its curse (Gal 3:10).

The word of God is forever true: the Mosaic law has been set aside and abolished (Heb 7:18-19; Eph 2:15).

God's ten commandment law still stands:

For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified (Romans 2:13).

Can you please explain something about this text?

Rom 2:12 For all who have sinned without the law will also perish without the law, and all who have sinned under the law will be judged by the law.
Rom 2:13 For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law who will be justified.
Rom 2:14 For when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do what the law requires, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the law.
Rom 2:15 They show that the work of the law is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness, and their conflicting thoughts accuse or even excuse them
Rom 2:16 on that day when, according to my gospel, God judges the secrets of men by Christ Jesus.

Certainly the conscience of gentiles convicts them about a number of sins such as theft, murder, etc. However, was Paul really referring to gentiles spontaneously keeping the Sabbath or Day of Atonement, etc.?

He says that they do by nature what the law requires based on the heart and conscience. We simply don't see mass populations of gentiles spontaneously being convicted to keep a memorial that many of them knew nothing about. Even if you are aware of some individuals who came to this realization, that does not equal a widespread recognition through the conscience.

I have not been following the whole conversation to this point, though I have been looking in occasionally. I don't have tons of time but wanted to understand a few things about your perspective.

a. do you hold that we should keep the whole Mosaic law or just the ten?

Not true! Heaven and earth would have to pass away in order for God's holy law to end (Luke 16:17).

Luk 16:16 "The Law and the Prophets were until John; since then the good news of the kingdom of God is preached, and everyone forces his way into it.
Luk 16:17 But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one dot of the Law to become void.

Did you notice, the law AND THE PROPHETS?

Look at a parallel text in Matthew 5

Mat 5:17 "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.
Mat 5:18 For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished.

Just trying to get your perspective on things.

Festivals were not written in stone, but the 10 commandments were. They are eternal.

I am trying to understand your position. By eternal do you mean that they never had a beginning, or do you simply mean that once given they don't fade away?
