    Hello all,

I hope that you are doing well.

My stepfather, who is 80 years old, is from Greece and I count it a blessing to know him and to have him as a second father. He currently does not believe in Jesus but, he believes that God exists.

I bought him a Greek Bible a long time ago only to discover, a few days ago to my dismay, that it was not in the common, everyday Greek of today but in higher Greek, which he had difficulty in reading fluidly.

If there are any Greek believers who read this post or, believers who know of the Holy Scriptures in common everyday Greek and that is an accurate, true and faithful translation for believers whose 1st language is Greek would you kindly recommend and direct me to where I can buy such a translation(s)?

    Thank you and God bless.

(Also, I would look forward to communicating with an evangelist who is a native of Greece or, who is from Greece as to how to share the Gospel with my Stepfather. He comes from, of course a Greek mindset and culture; negative experiences with Greek priests, Greek mythology. Although he is eighty he is sharper than many young men of today. Not to mention, that I have a great love for him.)

Post in The Ancient Way which is for Orthodox. I know there are a couple of people who are from Greece that could recommend a good modern Greek Bible in Demotic Greek. The one you got him was probably in Katharevousa Greek, which is along the lines of KJV English for the modern reader.

Spiritual things are spiritually discerned my friend. So any knowledge one knows is to no avail unless they are lead by God.
May the Lord our God guide us in your endeavour.

Thank you for your comment. Yes, if you are able to reach out to your friends from Greece for their recommendations of a good Demotic Greek Bible; preferably one with both the old and new testaments and that makes the books easy to be located, that would be much appreciated.

    Amen.

This is absolutely true. Along with this is also the necessity to be able easily read the Scriptures in his own language; not an academic Greek which many stumble through as if they were learning to read for the first time.

Give him Scriptures that he can readily read through and pray for the Lord to open his heart to comprehend fully what he has read.

"...How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!..."

Thank you for comment; God bless.

    Greetings malcolmsonjoshua,
Thanks for emphasizing this, we have also been focussed in our Europe ministries on getting native language Bibles to the population and it's been one of the most important factors increasing church attendance throughout the continent, both established and new churches. Greek in particular is a beautiful language and of course the chief language that the Gospels and New Testament in general were first written in, so there's something special about providing Bibles in Greek again today.
