  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'd like to hear more about this band from fans. I haven't kept up with new pop music in recent years. This seems like one of the better bands. Are they?

For fans of Coldplay, what other bands and artists do you like, from past and present? Thanks.
Coldplay is an aquired taste, I guess. My brother took me to Coldplays kickoff performance in the U.S. for my birthday last year and it was a mellow concert compared to others I have been to. The concert was very nice. However, if you like very alive concerts, then this probably is not one you would want to go to. It is more laid back. I LOVE their music though. I find it relaxing and nice.

I'm a fan, and unfortunately I think the band has suffered from it's popularity in that many of the fans of the Parachutes album disliked everything after that.

While I agree with most other Coldplay fans that Parachutes is their best album as of yet, I also love listening to Rush of Blood and X&Y.

When I'm in the mood to listen to Coldplay, I'll also mix in some Keane, Radiohead, The Fray, or Chris Isaac...

So, when you're in the mood for Coldplay you mix in some Coldplay, Radiohead, Coldplay, and Chris Isaak?

The problem I have with X &Y is that I think that I'm too quick to expect the same things from Coldplay that I get from Radiohead. For instance, the third Radiohead album? OK Computer, arguably one of the best albums of the 90's depending on whom you ask. Coldplay's third album? Parachutes Part 3 (in my opinion)

Yeah. That was in response to his question, "For fans of Coldplay, what other bands and artists do you like, from past and present?"

I'm surprised you didn't include U2.

U2 and Coldplay go together like...ACDC and Jet.

Ouch. As much as I like Coldplay, I think I'll stop short of comparing them to U2. Comparing them to U2 is for me like comparing them to Radiohead would be for you...blasphemous...;)

Speaking of Jet, I'm a fan. I've heard a few snippets of the new album, and I'm digging it...

Rush of Blood to the Head was a fantastic record. I love Coldplay. I am big fan. I am also a huge fan of The Fray. They have way more piano in their songs. Both bands are problably close to my favorite when it comes to secular music.
