CNN is under fire for allegedly publishing "Chinese propaganda" in a report that cites a media outlet controlled by the Chinese government.

On Monday, CNN.com ran an article about China People's Liberation Army (PLA) supposedly having a foothold in the spread of the coronavirus in a branch of its military, running the headline, "China's PLA Navy is controlling coronavirus and aircraft carrier's deployment proves it, report says."

"A Chinese naval flotilla headed into the Pacific over the weekend, evidence that the People's Liberation Army Navy has done a much better job controlling coronavirus than the US Navy, according to a story posted on the PLA's English-language website," the article began. The aircraft carrier Liaoning led the group, which included two guided-missile destroyers, two guided-missile frigates and an auxiliary ship, according to the report from state-run tabloid Global Times."

"Wow. CNN article just straight up regurgitated Chinese propaganda," Daily Caller investigative editor Peter J. Hasson tweeted.

"Unvarnished Chinese propaganda, published by CNN," The Federalist publisher Ben Domenech declared.

I doubt CNN is that much under fire from media giants The federalist and daily caller people throwing few tweets.

Since Bob is not much to give original links if Fox does not deign to - for undoubtedly reasons that have nothing to do with the issue that the original story might not fit to Fox narrative.

Where's the news? Most Asian countries have done a much more effective job of managing the virus than the US, this shouldn't come as a surprise.

Isn't that a separate event? If a news outlet was given to publishing only positive news about one country or another then I'd agree they might be peddling propaganda, but simply confirming what is actually quite obvious - that China, and even moreso Taiwan, S Korea and Vietnam, have managed the crisis much more effectively than the US, and a number of European countries, is useful information. News that puts China in a positive light on some specific issue because it is accurate isn't propaganda. Reporting that selectively tries to make one country look better than another 'just because' rather than reporting things that happen only serves to obscure any real picture of what is going on in the world, which leads to all kinds of other problems.

China was a democratic country with freedom of speech and great transparency and accountability with statistics we could trust two months ago and now they are not ?

Nothing has changed in two months apart from Trump’s realization that Covid was his problem as well.

Think Trump doesn’t need any help on that. By the time he leaves the office the public trust on your institutions, experts, press and rule of law will be abysmal.

China lied about their numbers both infected and deaths.

Yes they did, the Chinese govt dissembles all the time, that doesn’t mean this particular story isn’t factual (to the point anything complicated really is) or that China didn’t eventually deal with the spread of the virus quite effectively - so far anyway, if it breaks out again due to relaxing the shut down then things could tumble out of control economically.

Sure, but on a scale from ‘things that happen’ to ‘is this satire?’ they are closer to the first than Fox by a good measure. TV news in general isn’t ever going to be able to provide complete balance, there just isn’t enough room for the info required.
