We both work pretty much the same way. We can definitely get messy and slack off on the housework, but eventually reach a "breaking point" where one of us just can't stand the fact that X is messy, and go on a cleaning frenzy, taking care of everything else messy in the process. But I do make sure to take care of the absolute necessities (dishes, laundry) when they need to be done, since I can't stand dirty dishes lying around and a lack of clean clothes.

Needless to say, I just got done picking up every room in the house (except the office, which is still too daunting!) in the last 2-3 weeks. Also, my husband has spent all afternoon/evening washing and vacuuming all three of our cars, plus my parents' car, which has been in our driveway while they've been on vacation.

We tend to like things a bit cluttered, so there are piles of books and papers in various places, but I try to clean around them. ;)

I'm a stay-at-home wife, so I do pretty much all of the cleaning. I do okay. But when we're expecting someone to come over, I drive myself nuts trying to make everything perfect.

Same here!

Except that I'm a messy stay-at-home wife. :sorry: ("what do you do all day?" is a valid question, as it's definitely not cleaning! :D ) Actually, I try to finish my degree, but even when I'm not studying, cleaning isn't my first priority.

Husband doesn't mind the mess, and he helps me with things I have trouble with (vacuuming - gives me instant backache, so husband does it for me, twice a month, not every day like good housewives. :D ). I do all the cooking, I love cooking so that's not a problem.

Heh, I'm not the greatest house-keeper. I take care of the laundry and my husband takes care of the dishes. He does trash, car, and yard stuff, and I do about half the cooking, filing, and picking things up. Actual cleaning, scrubbing, etc., is my job, but I slack off way more than I should.

We're in rather a crunch now because there's still the possibility hanging over our heads of moving across country, so I'm trying every day to de-clutter. We have boxes in our house that have not been unpacked since I moved in 8 years ago, so I'm going through all that stuff and throwing a ton of things away, putting together boxes of stuff to give to Good Will, and organizing what's left.

I'm a SAHW right now too, and I do clean at least a few things every day. Though my health has been the pits lately, so there are days where I do very little. Neither of us like to see things get gross, so we're both good about that. But we're not too concerned with a little messiness now and then and it generally builds up a bit over the course of the week. DH is a clean freak (though not really a neat freak, interestingly enough), so he's the super-cleaner around the house. Every week or two we have a day where we spend some serious time scrubbing various parts of the place.
