• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The Lord called me to quit smoking in April. I did, from April to June I did not smoke a cigarette.
Then in June, I began to smoke maybe one time a week, when I would have lunch with my brother (usually on Mondays). He is a smoker and just as soon as I am with him...booom...cigarette time.

I feel so bad!!! especally because I know it was not my own free will to quit but God asking me to quit. I had been praying to stop and when He gave me deliverance, you'd think I would run from smoking.

Not so... Please yall keep me in prayer.

It's rough staying away from them...I know someone that is trying to kick the habit but he just can't seem to say "ok this is my last one".....your body craves for the nicotine (spelling?)....If you try those nicotine gums' make sure you cut them down because they have more in them than the cigarettes do.....the same with the patch....you might only smoke 1 pack a day and those things will have 3 packs of nicotine going into you a day....BTW, don't feel bad, we all stumble on things and end up back into them, we just have to know to get away from them and then get away from them.....ask your brother not to smoke in front of you, maybe he will and maybe that will help.....

Hey Battleaxe, I know what you mean. The first time He gave me the ability to just walk away COLD TURKEY. When I gave into it again because of the horrible circumstances I was in, HE didn't stop loving me but HE did make me quit a different way the next time. Keep praying and trusting Him. I told Him I was sorry for ever starting back and He forgave me and finally told me how to quit 'for ME'. I followed what HE told me to do faithfully and I've been smoke free for seven years now! Praise the Lord! He is just SO good! There is hope! Don't feel like you are alone, you definitely are NOT alone! :)

I too have been free from smoking for almost 8 yrs now. Try to think of the positives...how much money you will save, your clothes won't smell like smoke. And just think after you go thru those first days of withdrawal- you won't ever have to go thru them again.
Ask Jesus to sustain you by the power of the Holy Spirit. Rely on Him.

Well, I have done good for 2 days now. I am continuing to fast and pray. It is not hard to do. I really don't crave cigarettes although I smoked for some 20 years.
The thing that keeps me in trouble is the visit from my brother each week. We get together every Monday and have lunch. That is his way of spending time with his sibling and its fun. but He is not saved and he smokes so by the time I am with him several hours, then I smoke. That is the hard times.

Hey Lady, I know how you feel! This is a tough situation you are in.

Hmmm, I heard a doctor say once that smoking is a three-fold addiction, the nicotine we have all heard about, but he said there is the oral satisfaction (something in your mouth) and the tactile (touching something, occupying your fingers/hands.) This might be something to pray about and see if the Lord suggests some way to satisfy both of these urges/cravings so that you can still enjoy your brother!
The oral satisfaction is funny, my standardbred horse was being a total pill until we discovered he wanted a bit in his mouth to play with! We gave him a roller on the bit and he rolls that thing constantly! Giving him that oral stimulation has calmed him down so MUCH! :D Guess God's creatures have more in common than we think sometimes!
I will keep praying for you! I have faith in you!
