What are the beliefs of the Church of the Nazarene and how are they different from the UMC?
Thanks for your response. The COTN will stress sanctification a lot more than the UMC; that's the main difference. The other differences are non-doctrinal and have more to do with organization of the church and congregation. The catalyst for the start of the Church of the Nazarene was an elder who believed God's will was for him to stay in his current charge as he was doing effective work among the poor in Los Angeles, so he refused the new appointment. After censure by the Methodists, he went independent and continued the work. That grew into the Church of the Nazarene.
In general, the doctrines are exactly the same, but the Nazarenes are somewhat more conservative in practice and interpretation.

He asks and answers exactly the type of questions you've posed in so many sub-forums. And he conscientously attempts to do quality research and be fair rather than polemical.
