yet Danes, Norwegians and Swedes tell quite insulting jokes about each other...

jokes that the others could understand if they overheard in their mutually intelligible tongues

(i once stopped such a joke before the punch line by pointing out that everyone else considers all Scandinavians 99.9% the same, to which they paused and admitted that they had never thought about that before)

anyway, how deep is the psychological sense of disidentification, will Ukrainians now start telling "Ruskie" jokes and vice versa?

Greeks tell jokes about other greeks all the time. Pontan Greeks are the butt of jokes alot. But then again a greeks favorite curse and insult to another Greek is "f$:^=$%^ Your Village!!!
