Christ doesn't say the Pharisees were condemned for not knowing the Bible. They were condemned because they didn't know God.
Christianity is truly a unique religion, but religion never saved anyone. I'll go on record saying Christianity is the most beautiful religion, but I will not say everyone who believes in Christianity knows God. There is a very sharp but subtle contrast between those who are Christians for cultural or other reasons and those who are Christians because they actually believe it.
The Gospel is simple, but some people put their knowledge about God above actually knowing God. I am sure that if Christ walked this earth today he would have harsh words for many Christian pastors and leaders because they put their religion above knowing God.
