The article said that the preachers often had trouble with the law in their younger days. It could be that they were shot because of it. Any number of inferences can be gleaned from this article, but that doesn't mean that they were killed because of the gospel. It could be that they were.

The article says one of the three men had been arrested when he was a teenager, 7 years ago. The other two came from rough upbringings. So to infer that in their 20s, they had a problem with the 18 year old killer over a criminal issue does not seem to hold water. Furthermore, there is no need for inference when the third preacher gave a first-hand account of what happened.

Additionally, the assailant turned himself into police, which is hardly the actions of someone with a long standing "beef" or "rivalry." Certainly we will see what the criminal investigation and trial brings but there is no doubt that these two saints were killed "in the line of duty."

The motive is not entirely material, either. If they were street preaching and murdered for their money, they were still murdered while sharing the Gospel.

It is truly unfortunate that they were killed but evangelists have paid this price since the beginning of the Church. They belong to God now.
