I am a musician. I've been a musician for 15+ years. And I can tell you this: Listen to the radio. Some of those bands 'ability' isn't worth the dump my baby boy took in his diaper when he was little. I GUARANTEE you, there are bands out there that are unsigned that are 1000 times better than some of the tripe that permeates our airwaves and bookstore shelves. Just because it's got a good message, doesn't mean it's good music.

I haven't gone back through each post, but has anyone made the point that many feel music was never meant as an evangelistic tool in the first place? Not saying that I necessarily follow that school of thought, but there seems to be a lot of pride and opinion driving this discussion, and no real substance.

Sounds like that means it's about the money then, if we're talking about a 'hit record'. But also, by your reasoning, magazines and online music sites should never do cd reviews, because heaven forbid someone have something negative to say about a 'Christian' cd release. I mean, we wouldn't want to actually criticize an artist or band now, would we??

CASTING CROWNS?! NO WAY!!! First of all, they've only done ONE cd, so how can you classify as "having their time in the sun, and needing to go away"? Their cd was amazing, and their live cd was ALSO amazing!

Wow. I can't believe all of the negativity on this thread.

The scriptures say that we as Christians are to hold each other accountable as members of the body. But we are to do so in love. We are to teach and rebuke each other with the Word, not belittle, criticize and condemn.

On topic: I know it's a business, but don't forget the fact that it is also ministry. We are called to use our gifts to lead others to the Lord and to help our brothers and sisters grow in Christ. The Bible doesn't say to be a fisher of men until someone younger or fresher comes along. We are to strive for Him as long and as hard as we can with all that we have.

Now relax and enjoy God's blessings!

Absolutely. Right on! I don't understand why so many people get their panties in a wad when someone opines that a particular CCM band is bad, or should call it a day.

Speaking from a subjective, musical-quality standpoint has nothing to do with whether anyone is doubting or attacking the "ministry" of any of the CCM bands mentioned so far in this thread.

Why is this so difficult to grasp?!?!?

Just to be clear, my "panties aren't in a wad" (if they were I'd use this: ) and I didn't single anyone out. I stated my opinion, as others have stated theirs.

I'm all for bands playing into their 90s, as long as they touch hearts. I'm an avid believer in changing the station. If you don't like it, don't buy it, don't play it.

I reiterate:

We are to strive for Him as long and as hard as we can with all that we have.

By that, I mean that as long as a band or artist hears the call to do the Lord's work, they should keep going.

Why is that so difficult to grasp?

Most markets only have one Christian station to choose from...How are other believers suppose to encouraged when they keep playing the old "safe" stand bys

Isn't that an issue for the radio stations, not the artists? Perhaps the question shouldn't be "Which artists should go out to pasture?" but "Which radio stations should change their lineup?"

How much does public opinion/feedback impact a Christian radio station? Is the programming entirely up to promotors?
