We've heard all about the Uyghur muslims being persecuted but not much about Christian persecution. Why is this? Why won't the USA make such persecution into a major issue?

The Church is the enemy of the World system. Don't expect any sympathy. I don't believe that there is any such thing as a Christian country any more. The god of Mammon rules. That's why China gets away with literal murder and has since communism took over. The insanity is that Western money funded the rise of China. Short term greed has come back to bite the world.
God is not idle. China will curse the day that it oppressed God's people. As will every other nation that has turned its back on Christians.
And becoming ground-zero for plagues and disease. All of their public schools are limited to e-learning indefinitely until they can get out from under this. And who knows what shutting down tourism and big sectors of their economy will do?
At some point even the CCP has to "wake up and smell the coffee"
