2 foreign-born American researchers and one Japanese have won the Nobel Prize in chemistry for their work in developing the lithium-ion battery. John Goodenough, an engineering professor at the Univ. of Texas in Austin is 97 years old. He's now the oldest Nobel laureate n history.

Kinda interesting that the prize was given for a technological advance rather than for basic science research. Li-ion batteries have revolutionized mobile electronics. They're lightweight and last for 100s of recharges. But the lithium electrolyte solutions inside the cells are highly flammable. If the batteries aren't manufactured properly, or if they're punctured, or overcharged, they can overheat, catch fire or explode.

More than deserved, one of the technologies which makes modern life possible.

Now if someone is able to make such a thing with metallic Lithium, that would be another huge gamechanger.

I suppose that would be more than good enough.
