• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Chemical taste

During the night I wake up with a nasty chemical taste in my mouth. I was using a mouth guard and took it out. I went back to sleep and in the morning I used mouthwash (a few minutes ago). No more bad taste so far. I'll ask my dentist later. Any ideas about this? Maybe it's from my mouth guard, one of those plastic drugstore ones.

It is probably the chemicals in the mouthgard. :( I am allergic to plastics so the acrylics (hard or soft) really cause me such problems I cannot use them. Soak it in... I forget...baking soda solution? something and see if you can drain the chemical residue out of it... I doubt it.

I've been using the mouth guard for a few years with no issues.

It's probably not the mouth guard itself, but it could get tastes from bacteria and such if you don't clean it. Baking soda should do the trick; otherwise, mouth wash or a hydrogen peroxide rinse.

It is probably the chemicals in the mouthgard.
Everything physical is chemicals, including air and water.

of course I'm wrong... I'm allergic and no one else is I guess.
Oh jean, I didn't say you were wrong, I said everything physical is chemical - which it is.

If you're allergic to plastics, then you are - that must be inconvenient. Apparently, some mouth guards are made of acrylic, some of thermoplastic, some of polyurethane. I've never noticed any taste from a new one, but as time went on...hey, I repeated your suggestion of baking soda.
I'm not entitled to reply, I get it.
 I'm not touching that one. :sigh:
