I reckon if Charles Spurgeon had a vision then it had to be true. Here it is.

He said he went walking on Brighton Beach and had a vivid mind picture of a large black horse. He felt that heard what seemed like a voice that said that the horse was going to drink the sea dry. So he saw the horse drink and drink and grow larger and larger, but he saw no different in the sea level. The horse kept on drinking until it became gigantic, and then it burst, and floated to the shore dead. Then he realised that the black horse was the evil elements of the world that threatened to drink up the Gospel, but the more it drank, the Gospel remained largely untouched, and in the end it was the opposition to the Gospel that was defeated.

Now THAT is a vision! Notice that this vision needs no interpretation by any one else. It was clear and direct and definitely Gospel related. It just shows that a non-Charismatic preacher can get a powerful vision that gives a clear Gospel message to encourage the saints.
