Does anyone else read Chaim Potok?
I loved his book THE CHOSEN. I live in California, and it really gave me a sense of what it is like to be a Jew in Brooklyn, among other things. There are two Jewish teens, one is Modern Orthodox, the other Ultra Orthodox. The MO one grows up to be a Rabbi, and the Ultra Orthodox one grows up to be a Psychologist -- exactly the opposite of what you would think. It's a riveting drama, including a subplot about how one father, a Rebbe, teaches his arrogant genius son the gift of compassion through suffering. And no Jewish tale would be complete without a play for Zionism. Definitely a book to make you think.
