The Walker-Warnock race is one of the closest-watched in the country, as Georgia is among a handful of states that will determine whether the GOP takes the majority in the Senate.

In spite of recent allegations that Herschel Walker, the Republican candidate for Senate in Georgia, paid for an ex-girlfriend's abortion, he has the support of a solid majority of Catholic voters in the state, according to a new EWTN poll.

Walker, a former football great and political novice, is campaigning as a pro-life candidate in a race against the incumbent Democrat, Sen. Raphael Warnock, a Baptist minister who callshimself a “pro-choice pastor.”

According to the EWTN News/RealClearPolitics poll, if the election were held today, 64.7% of Catholic voters would cast their ballots for Walker, while 32.7% would support Warnock.

The allegations seem rather free-floating and without any firm dates. Which probably suits the Democrats just fine. If they can imply Walker opposes abortion AND AT THE SAME TIME pays for an abortion they can play the hypocrite card. On the other hand, if the alleged abortion or abortions were years ago then it shows positive signs of moral growth. Warnock shows zero signs of positive moral growth concerning abortion. So the better candidate would be Walker if the abortion allegation is from years ago.

I do think the Senate is already going to be at least 50 seats for the Democrats no matter what happens in Georgia.

It is an interesting bit of strategy and counter. There is a strategy in advertising called negative framing. If you can frame something in a negative way and your opponent tries to counter that using the same frame. To the public, it seems to be an affirmation of the negative frame. It is like the old question, "When did you stop beating your wife?" Even a denial will seem to the public like you beat your wife at some time. So when accused of paying for an abortion, Walker has two counters. He can deny and try to minimize the allegations by not repeating them or he can try to persuade the public by forcefully going after proof of their falsehood (assuming they are false). The second approach will keep the allegations before the public well through the run off. Also, the media is never kind to conservatives and the news will always frame him in a negative way, even it he could fight back in some way. So he is taking the less risky strategy of letting sleeping rabid dogs lie.
