Much is happening up here in Canada; the popularity of our present Government is falling like a stone; yet they persist on pushing an agenda that their own polls show to be unpopular.

Rumor has it, that this coming week the Liberal Government will announce and "order in council" banning AR15 rifles, and most other semi-automatic weapons, meaning they will be classed as Prohibited. This will likely mean a delayed confiscation (A new Prohib class would be created, grandfathered prohib licenses would be issued to all who currently posses these firearms; but at the death of the individual, or if the license lapses, they would need to be surrendered to the Police).

While legal, an order in council is made at the Cabinet level, and there is no precedent for an OIC to result in the confication of private property. (they have done so with others such as the AK47 but through parliamentary bills, through parliament; this is better, as all of the MPs get a say.).

So far the result has been a massive buy-out of virtually every AR at ever dealer in Canada; including components. Dealers are not restocking for fear that they will have unsaleable stock by the middle of next week.

AR15 are already restricted; there is talk of other firearms, including handguns. We will know by the end of next week.

Please keep Canada in your prayers.

    Mark

This is partially a result of mayors of cities who had gang violence wanting a handgun ban. The Assault Rifle class guns, no idea why anyone would need them up here anyway.

Since they have been controled as restricted, not one has been used in a crime in Canada. (present system is working). This is simply a way of pandering to those outside the firearms community; creating fear and buying votes for the now grievously failing liberal government.

Prohibiting and confiscating private property of legal owners will still do nothing to take the guns out of the hands of criminals, who seem to be able to get guns smuggled in the from US/Europe eastern mostly/and the far east. Never registered, never controlled.

For those who question why? Why does anyone need a 200 HP ski-boat; a snowmobile that will go 100+ mph? Cars that and motor cycles that will go more than 100 MPH?

Anyone of these each will cause way more death and injury than legal firearms in the whole legal firearms community.

Note also that when we see government gun crime statistics, in about equal numbers with actual firearms are homemade guns, pellet and bb guns that are used in holdups, or someone took to school for show and tell, and airsoft and paintball guns.

In england, france and Canada, vehicles were used in terror attacks; yet there is no call for banning vehicles, or particular types of vehicles, yet they are freely available, and the owners and operators are not subjected to criminal and mental background checks the way legal firearm owners are here in Canada.

GB has had strict bans in place yet in a recent BBC program, it turns out that many recent immigrants are sending their teens back to their country of origins because they are in more danger in England than they are in Kenya and other Somali and other African countries. Countries like the Czech Republic where there are no such restrictions, have less violence than GB.

Likewise, illegal gun crime is on the increase in Austrailia where there have been severe gun bans in place for a number of years.

Crime and criminals need to be targeted, not citizens that jump through every hoop just to comply with ever changing government regulations.

Get your facts straight, and offer a solution, instead of a warm and fuzzy political vote-buying festivities offered by the socialist dictatorship of a government we call the Liberal Party.

Canadian Socialists may be happy to hear that Trudeau and Blair have sold more AR15 rifles in the last year, than all the adds and marketing put together.

A year and a half ago, I saw the writing on the wall and I bought a legally registered Lower and commended to build my own; it is a great shooter and I have a lot of fun with it at our range. So does everyone I let shoot it!!

Good news! The rumors were just that; rumors. I expect that the Liberal Party will make bans part of their election platform for our up-coming election this fall.

I had to change the grip on mine due to the angle. It would hurt my wrist after about 200-300 shots. Now the few degrees makes all the difference in the world. I can let 500 or more rounds fly before I even notice any strain. It is wonderful to live in a country where federals are not going to come busting the gate down to arrest the folks who happen to own and shoot a modern sporting rifle. (I'll be glad when they revert to allow full automatic and suppressors without federal intervention.) Anyway, very nice assembly.

Freedoms are often not lost. They are often relinquished in exchange for something less precious. In the end freedom is not lost but taken or given away. The inherent right to those freedoms remains even when the ability to exercise those rights is unjustly removed by coercive force.

You may not be aware, but we already have prohibitions in effect; there are presently two different classes; both of which were applied to firearms that had been previously registered.

On class contains fully automatic weapons; and fully auto conversions to semi-auto such as the AK74. If you owned any of these prior to their prohibition, you may keep them, but you may not ever remove them from your residence and shoot them. You may sell them to anyone who has the correct class of license. Since at their prohibition, no new licences will ever be issued; the market has grown quite small, and these firearms have little market value unless you have them deactivated, and verified by the RCMP, they can be deregistered. These guns have way more market value than their functioning counterparts here in Canada.

The second class contains firearms that were previously registered; these are all pistols with a barrel shorter than 4.1"; all .22 short and .32 caliber pistols with the exception .22 short and .32 ACP that are designed expressly for international competition. Pistols with short barrels, not .22 short or .32 can be modified by installing a non prohibited barrel (over 4.1") and when verified, will be moved from prohib status to restricted status. These may be sold to anyone with the correct class of license; but no new licenses will be issued.

Both prohibited classes above can be bequeathed to a holder of the correct class of license, or to a member of your immediate family with a valid firearms licence, and the classification will be transferred to that person.

A third class of prohibited devices that no one may possess (except for law enforcement and military) include silencers/supressors; pistol magazines that hold more than 10 rounds of the caliber that they were designed for; centerfire rifle magazines that hold more than 5 rounds (of exceptions).

Restricted class are all other non prohibited hand guns, and specific modern sporting rifles built as semi-automatic only that include the AR15 and one model of CZ bull-pup (some military style bull-pups remain non restricted and no one knows why). These require a restricted class licence, and can only be fired at a certified range. The ARs and the CZ and a few others mentioned above would have been moved into the second class mentioned above; had they followed through on the rumor.

Interesting fact... When I take my AR to the range I can not use a 10 round AR15 mag (prohibited); but I can use a LAR15 10 round mag because it was designed and designated for the AR15 based LAR pistol. In doing so, no laws are being broken.

Likewise, I can take the 10 shot .40 Jericho mag, and shove 15 9mm Luger rounds in it, and put it in my CZ Clone; and they feed just fine, and I have broken no laws.

    Laws don't always make sense.

So regarding the first two prohib classes; we call this "deferred confiscation", in that if there is no one to inherit and no one to buy these, upon your death, or if you fail to renew your licence, they must be surrendered. If you don't renew your license, it is flagged in the system, and they will show up at your door with a warrant to confiscate.

The above lists are not complete, but you get the idea.

You don't need to tell me that . I live in New York State where laws rarely make sense for anyone outside of New York City.

    Sounds like a nightmare.
Indeed. And the more recent the law, the less it tends to make sense. At some point, Lord willing, would like to move, though I love the state's natural beauty.

I would prefer that NYC become an independent nation of its own. Perhaps a socialist international city/state. There could be a government employee stationed in each residence to assure that no one drank more than 12 oz of carbonated beverages or engaged in any other non approved behavior.

So far we don't have those issues in Texas. I carry in church, in the restaurants, in the stores. I was standing next to a man and woman in Walmurt the other day and both were open carrying. No issues, no problems. Both were legally holstered and strapped like they were supposed to be.

I have no issues with this either; however, were it legal to do so here, I would likely not carry; 60 winters on me, and never once have I been in a situation where I would have needed one. For me the inconvenience would outweigh the need. However, I would like to use my AR for groundhog hunting, and I can not. I would like to carry a pistol out and about in the countryside for some pinking, but I can not. I don't see any of this changing any time soon either.

We have two national forests near Houston. Sam Houston is the nearest and it was taken over by the state to make it a Wildlife Management Area. The other, Davy Crockett, is still national forest and only one small section is state WMA. We can't hunt at night, use any form of light after dark, bait for feral hogs, plink or target practice in the WMA. We can plink and practice and night hunt under moon light in Davy Crockett. So, while we can carry openly in the forest when scouting for hunting areas or actually hunting, we still face restrictions that are cumbersome. Don't let anybody kid you. Hogs have more rights that people. In Texas I could walk out with a light at night, catch a thief, and shoot him and be cleared by a Grand Jury. If I did the same thing with a hog rooting around in the forest stealing my food I could shoot him and be cited or jailed for hunting at night with a light.
