CAN YOU LOSE SALVATION AND ETERNAL LIFE?

What are your thoughts?

According to the scriptures, God's salvation is condtional on...

1. FAITH (believing and following God's Word) *JOHN 3:14-21 in God's word and promises *2 PETER 1:4, JOHN 3:16; JOHN 10:26-27

2. REPENTANCE FROM SIN *MATTHEW 3:2; MATTHEW 4:17; LUKE 13:3-5; ACTS 2:38; ACTS 3:19; ACTS 8:32; PROVERBS 28:9-13

3.CONFESSION OF SIN
*1 JOHN 1:9; PROVERBS 28:13; JAMES 2:10-11; 1 JOHN 3:4 and

4. ACCEPTANCE OF JESUS AS OUR PERSONAL LORD AND SAVIOUR FROM SIN *JOHN 8:31-36; John 10:26-27; JOHN 10:38; JAMES 2:18-20; 16; ROMANS 6:1-23; MATTHEW 7:21-27; John 4:42

Those who follow God do not practice sin and those who continue in SIN do not know God *1 JOHN 3:9; 1 JOHN 2:1-4 and need to be BORN AGAIN with a new heart to love. If the HOLY SPIRIT cannot come and go if we depart the faith, why are we warned to not GRIEVE the HOLY SPIRIT *EPHESIANS 4:30; PSALMS 51:10-13?

We GRIEVE God's SPIRIT by SIN *GENESIS 6:5-6; PSALMS 119:158 and not BELIEVING and FOLLOWING God's WORD *PSALMS 95:10-11; HEBREWS 3:10-11; HEBREWS 3:17-19. It is ONLY those who BELIEVE and FOLLOW God's WORD to the END that will be saved *JOHN 8:31-36; MATTHEW 24:13; MARK 13:13; HEBREWS 3:13-14; HEBREWS 3:6; COLOSSIANS 1:12-14; 23; HEBREWS 10:26-27; HEBREWS 6:4-8; MATTHEW 13:18-23.

According to the scriptures if we are not CONTINUING to BELIEVE and FOLLOW God's WORD to the END we can GREIVE God's Spirit and depart from the faith *2 THESSALONIANS 2:1-3; 1 TIMOTHY 4:1.

ARE WE IN A SAVED STATE WHILE CONTINUING IN KNOWN UNREPENTANT SIN?

................

For me the scriptures teach we can have the hope of eternal life today through faith but it is only those who endure temtation to the end and continue in the faith that reveive eternal life.

TITUS 1:2 In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;

TITUS 3:7 That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

COLOSSIANS 1:22-23 [22], In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and blameless and unreproveable in his sight: [23], If you continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel..

TITUS 3:7 That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

However, it is only those who ENDURE temptation to the END BELIEVING and FOLLOWING God's Word that receive eternal life.....

MATTHEW 24:13 [12], And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. [13], But he that shall endure to the end, the same shall be saved.

MARK 13:13 [13], And you shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that shall endure to the end, the same shall be saved.

HEBREWS 3:13-14 [13], But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. [14], For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end

HEBREWS 3:6 [6], But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm to the end.

JAMES 1:12 [12], Blessed is the man that endures temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord has promised to them that love him.

...............

What are your thoughts?

May God bless you as you seek him and continue in His Word.

Nope, you can't lose your salvation. Believers are sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise. Ephesians 1:13
"Believers" are indeed sealed with the Holy spirit but if one departs the faith they are no longer "believers" but have become "unbelievers" who have departed the faith. The scriptures teach that at this point we can grieve God's Spirit and he will leave us e.g. Psalms 51:10-13. Why are we warned in the scriptures not to grieve God's Spirit or quench God's Spirit (quench BTW means to extinguish or to put out σβέννυμι sbénnymi | G4570) *1 Thessalonians 5:19; Ephesians 4:30? Do those who depart the faith giving heed to doctrine of devils have Gods' Spirit? *1 Timothy 4:1

WHAT CAN SEPARATE US FROM THE LOVE OF GOD?

ISAIAH 59:1-2 [1], Behold, the LORD's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: [2], But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.

No, we can't lose salvation.
BUT, we won't know we are saved till we hear that our names are still in the book of life...on the last day.
If it is...we can't lose it.

My take on this type of discussion is not to answer the question as it is not nearly as impactful on my life as living and serving the Lord is. It is important to live your faith. It is important to know who God is and that God is God period. God is not subject to how we think of Him or what our emotional relationship is to Him. God is faithful. God is unchanging in that sense. Christ said that the Shepherd will search out the lost sheep and restore it to the flock. What is your faith, what is it based on. Whose are you? Do you walk in knowledge that God is in you, is always with you, abides in you if you abide in Him. Is He Lord, is He God, is He Sovereign in your life? Follow Him, serve Him, be subjected to Him, live as Christ lived. Stand firm in the faith. Be willing to die for the faith. Are you His? What did Paul say, finish the course. Don't quit partway there. Be diligent be faithful, be Christlike and be a subject of the one who died and rose for you. Then there is no question about your faith, is there? Run the race, finish the course. Gain the prize and the crown which you can then lay at the Masters feet.

True that is what I believe Maria. How do you think we can know if we are in the faith or not?

Hi Phil, what do you think Hebrews 6:4-8 means and also Hebrews 10:26-31 and how does what you say reconcile with the scriptures here and in the OP that disagree with you? I am interested to hear your view.

When it is only Him that we seek with a pure heart and the innocence of a child. This requires the stripping of all man made institutions and doctrines. When this is accomplished then Jesus Christ of Nazareth is the only one in our life through the power of His Holy Spirit.

Only then will you know true faith. Be blessed.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts Maria. When it says to examine yourselves to see if you are in the faith. How do you think we are to do this?

Everyone has a different definition of "faith" and /or add to "faith" that which is not in the "will of the Father". Ask yourself, "Is this the Will of the Father"? ....as you examine yourself.
Be blessed.

EDIT: The Holy Spirit will help you discern.

Perhaps I see it a little differently then you. What do you think Romans 10:17 means as a hint to what is referred to as "the faith"?

Absooutely Maria. Perhaps we see it the same after all. These are my thoughts to. When the bible refers to "the faith" or "departing the faith" according to the scriptures it means departing the teachings of the Word of God (Jesus) as our faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God *Romans 10:17. In your view does God save us while continuing in known unrepentant sin? What is the meaning of salvation in your view?

One need not wait for judgement day to know if we are believers. It is evident by the life we live and the fruit produced. Hi there Caspian, nice to meet you and thanks for sharing your view. I enjoyed reading what you shared with us here. Essentially your quoting from Jesus "by their fruits you shall know them." I believe this to be one of the tests indeed. Do you think we need to know more then this? I mean we are also told in the last days that there will be many that have a form of godliness but deny the power thereof. How do we know that we are not one of these people that say to Jesus at the second coming Lord Lord did we not do this and that in your name? Then Jesus says unto them I never knew you depart from me you who practice sin (iniquity). What are your thoughts?

God bless.

Not everyone "finishes the race".
The parable's alleged believers of Matt 7:22 can testify to that.
Finish the race before claiming victory.
