What is a nicene christian?

The Nicene Creed (which can be found in many websites) is the statement of faith that the First Ecumenical Council--meeting in Nicea--drew up to define what a "Christian" is. If someone is telling another that they are a Christian, but they don't believe the Nicene Creed is necessary or relevant, then that person is NOT a Christian

In the bible it was John writing to children explaining what a christian is..when he told them we know christians by their love. I think some churches dont actually teach about the nicene creed. In the baptist church its not really mentioned although the presbyterian one did.
But if you becoming a like an official member like pledging you do have to agree about what you believe.

I think its good in many ways to have a statement of faith. If you cant even articulate or say that Jesus is Lord you cant really be a christian can you? Because we can only say Jesus is Lord by his spirit.

THE NICENE CREED

We believe in one God,
The Father, the Almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
True God from True God,
begotten, not made,
of one being with the Father;
through Him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation

He came down from heaven,
was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary
and became truly human.
For our sake He was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
He suffered death and was buried.
On the third day He rose again
in accordance with the scriptures;
He ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory
to judge the living and the dead,
and His kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Giver of Life,
who proceeds from the Father,
who with the Father and the Son
is worshiped and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church.
We acknowledge one baptism
for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come. Amen

Can you post it here so people can see please?

Is it the 'i believe' one. Where is Nicea?
Nicea is a city in modern day Turkey though at that point it was part of the Empire and not too far from the capital.

Is that it,
or is it "Nicene Christians are those that BELIEVE the Nicene Creed" ?

re: noting the difference between just believing , and adhering to.

I don't think there's a point to pick apart. It IS a statement OF belief, that is its purpose. Not much there about action.

The Apostles Creed was not finalized until the sixth century while the Nicene Creed was fourth century. There are a number of other creeds as well. The only biblical creed that I am aware of was "Jesus is Lord". Each of the creeds in my opinion reflects how Christians at a particular time and place regarded their faith. That is not and never has been a constant.

Can someone post it here to compare? I just want to ask something about the trinity, it seems there's varying beliefs amongst christians, the nicene creed doesn't say the holy spirit is another completely separate person does it? But have heard some christians believe this and some don't. As for myself I am not sure what to adhere to but I know the work of the holy spirit in my life even if I can't define exactly the way he works.

It seems to me the important thing, even from amongst all the differing and quibbling trinitarian beliefs is that Jesus is Lord and saviour.

Would you agree or does that open a can of worms?

We still recite and believe the Nicene Creed as written what - seventeen centuries ago? That seems pretty constant to me.

Apostles' Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to hell.
The third day he rose again from the dead.
He ascended to heaven
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.
From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic* church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

*that is, the true Christian church of all times and all places

HOW people live their faith has been like a roller coaster !

Then, if "revivals" are taken into account (revival of YHWH'S PRESENCE among HIS PEOPLE) ,
there's even greater changes/ variations ....

The Holy Spirit is traditionally considered a "Person" - one of three of the Holy Trinity. The word "separate" might be a problem however ...

This seems rather off-topic to a discussion of the Creeds.

Be that as it may, the constancy across centuries is something I deeply appreciate about my Church.

The Nicene creed does explain that the holy spirit proceeds from the Father and Son, not that its a completely separate person, which I have heard some preachers teach.

My thoughts are, that can get into iffy terrtory esp with new age or other religious belief, because they commune with spirits who may call themselves the holy spirit and not necessarily come from Father God and Lord Jesus. Then all the focus goes into the holy spirit, instead of to Jesus, who always points to our Father.

You are trying to interject something here that is beyond the scope of the OP.
