By the way, on November 4th, you won't hear about it [COVID-19] anymore

After the US election, what will the MSM be reporting about COVID-19?

  • BIDEN will win, and COVID news will curiously disappear

Trump said this at a rally in North Carolina today. Posters here at CF have said much the same. But what do you think?

YOUR VOTE IS IMPORTANT IN A THRIVING DEMOCRACY

The two missing options

Everyone will still be celebrating Richmond's win in the Grand Final yesterday
Everyone will be watching the Melbourne Cup.

Ahh Victoria, the only state in the world that has a public holiday for a football game and then another for a horse race.

Since this is the American Politics folder, I'll relay another bit of American exceptionalism in linguistics I've noticed. In the US, I think 100 out of a 100 people would say Grand Finale to describe such an event, with at least a nod at an Italian pronunciation on the second word. Hearing "Grand Final" on say... Zumbo's Just Desserts or UK shows is irrationally irksome to me and the spouse. It cannot just pass without rude comments from us both.

Please put a shrimp on the barbie and adjust your lexicon.

It would be great if Covid disappeared on Nov 4. But I think it’s unlikely.

im not so sure it’s seasonal though. I think with the star of school and various holidays, we’re seeing more gatherings.

I wouldn’t have even been able to have guessed what sports you were talking about.

Not to mention the pronunciation of The Grand Prix.

Everybody knows “grand prix.” Fewer know “prix fixe.”

Your use of the past conditional suggests that's no longer the case.

Another convert to the cause. Resistance is futile.

I assumed that your third sentence gave them away by naming football and horse racing. If that’s not correct, then I still have no idea. If it is correct, then I still have to guess as to which version of football it is.

If Trump wins the election one of two things will happen, either the left will be so busy burning down the country it will take top spot in the news, and COVID coverage will dissipate..

Or, COVID coverage will stay top spot in the news just to hate on Trump and keep people riled up.

However, with vaccines on the horizon, it won't be very long lived.

If Joe Biden is elected, by the time he takes office vaccines will be on the market and there won't be anything to talk about, other than how Joe Biden "saved the day" while ignoring that without Trump we wouldn't have any vaccines...

So it really depends on who wins how it will be covered.

Here's my theory. Biden will start listening to scientists and implement and encourage changes. Then, if people choose to follow those more than before, you'll see a dip in cases.

Essentially, ANY lowering of COVID rates during Biden's term will be seen as a Democrat conspiracy (Qanon will find a way to shoehorn themselves deeper into it), as opposed to following the advice of doctors, specialists and smart people.

Given that this isn't what the Qanon idiots tend to do, I suppose I could understand why this might look like shady behaviour to them. But then there is no real trick to it, other than just to not be an idiot

You're right the Biden will be taking over at a favorable time. But a vaccine is still going to take a few months to roll out. So at least for a few months control of Covid will be an issue.

A vaccine will help, but may not solve the problem. Remember that doctors are saying one that is 50% successful will be worth using. A lot of people won't take it. So over a period of months it will lower transmission, but may not bring us back to where we can ignore Covid.

I agree. Biden has his work cut out for him and there will be no unicorns and rainbows. Tens of thousands of Americans will still die before a vaccine is deployed, perhaps much more.

A look at whats going on in the countries not governed by Trump (all the other countries) reveals covid media coverage generally is not all about "attacking Trump".
