Several businesses and residents in Capitol Hill on Wednesday filed a class action lawsuit against Seattle, alleging the occupation of CHOP has subjected them to property damage, public safety dangers and economic losses.

The lawsuit said businesses, employees and residents in the protest zone face are facing "irreparable harm" after the city's decision to remove officers and abandon the area surrounding the Seattle Police Department's East Precinct.

"This lawsuit does not seek to undermine CHOP participants' message or present a counter-message," the lawsuit said.

"Rather, the lawsuit is about the constitutional and other legal rights of Plaintiffs--businesses, employees, and residents in and around CHOP--which have been overrun by the city of Seattle's unprecedented decision to abandon and close off an entire city neighborhood, leaving it unchecked by police, unserved by fire and emergency health services and inaccessible to the public at large."

.....

"Plaintiffs have repeatedly pleaded with Mayor Durkan and others to cease enabling the destruction of their property and imminent dangers posed to them and their neighborhood," the lawsuit said. "But the City has not listened, or has not cared, and Plaintiffs have had to resort to litigation to make themselves heard."

The suit said it has been difficult for residents and businesses to even access their buildings at times and that the city's actions allowed for "widespread destruction and vandalism of private property," resulting in economic loss. The suit also pointed to a lack of "public-safety assistance even in life-threatening circumstances."
Evidently they are not feeling the 'summer of love'.

The "zone" is falling apart. Once the mayor pulled support they knew it was over.

Good News,

Community leaders and an activist whose brother was killed by Seattle police in 2016 are urging protesters occupying the Capitol Hill Organized Protest, or CHOP, to leave by Wednesday night.
In a statement addressed to “comrades in the struggle” posted on social media Wednesday, CHOP organizers declared, “It is time we shift to the next phase of our organizing and move from direct action to virtual activism.”

“The CHOP project is now concluded,” the lengthy message said. “While we expect a very small handful of holdouts may try to remain in the CHOP no further organizing will be occurring to support this presence and the number on-site will be too small to be more than an annoyance for pedestrians rather than a zonal blockade."
