The Justice Department has charged a Capitol rioter who was turned in by someone he matched with on the dating app Bumble, after he bragged about his exploits on January 6.

According to court documents, one week after the attack, Robert Chapman of New York told one of his Bumble matches that "I did storm the Capitol" and said that he "made it all the way into Statuary Hall." He also claimed that he was interviewed by members of the media.

The other Bumble user replied, "we are not a match."

Not directly related, but good for contrast.
The D.C. National Guard’s deployment of helicopters to quell racial justice demonstrations in Washington last summer, a chilling scene in which two aircraft hovered extremely low over clusters of protesters, was a misuse of military medical aircraft and resulted in the disciplining of multiple soldiers, the Army said Wednesday.

Following this not directly related vein.

California Guard members feared fighter jet would be ordered to frighten protesters

But then came an unusual order: The air branch of the Guard was told to place an F-15C fighter jet on an alert status for a possible domestic mission, according to four Guard sources with direct knowledge of the matter.

Those sources said the order didn’t spell out the mission but, given the aircraft’s limitations, they understood it to mean the plane could be deployed to terrify and disperse protesters by flying low over them at window-rattling speeds, with its afterburners streaming columns of flames. Fighter jets have been used occasionally in that manner in combat zones in Iraq and Afghanistan, they said.

The sources said the directives from Guard headquarters made their way down orally or in text messages, rather than in formal written orders, which was unusual and heightened their concerns that the jet would be used inappropriately.

But The Times reviewed other internal Guard documents that show the jet was placed on an alert status for a possible election-week mission and that officers discussed concerns in March 2020 as well as that summer about using the F-15C for domestic purposes, including to intimidate civilians.

“That jet has one mission and one mission alone — to go up and shoot down other airplanes,” said retired Gen. David Bakos.

This isn’t the first time questions have been raised about the Guard’s use of aircraft in times of civil unrest. In October, The Times reported that the Guard had sent an RC-26B reconnaissance plane to monitor Floyd-related protests in June in the affluent Sacramento suburb of El Dorado Hills, where [Maj. Gen. David Baldwin, who leads the California Guard] lived.

A family member turned in an Ocala man who went to Washington D.C. “knowing full well they were going to break in” to the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, according to the U.S. Justice Department.

Pictures from surveillance video and text messages provided to the FBI show Kelly inside the Capitol, which he kept referring to as the White House, the affidavit said.

“Inside the White house via breaking in windows,” a text message said. “Tree of liberty was watered today.”

As long as we're talking consequences and repercussions, has anyone mentioned (I'm far too lazy to sort through 660+ posts) what would have happened if the mob had succeeded?

If they had managed to significantly disrupt the count, or worse, actually managed to take (and/or execute) a few congresspeople hostage in exchange for Donald's continued reign... is there anyone here who doubts for a second that he would have gleefully accepted "the mandate of the people"?

U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth ruled Friday that Scott Fairlamb must remain jailed over his role in the January 6 insurrection due to his habit of punching people in the face.

In his ruling, Lamberth said that he agreed with prosecutors that the 44-year-old gym owner and MAGA rioter showed no remorse for storming the Capitol and had a history of criminal violence.

“In other words,” Lamberth ruled, “the defendant’s history of punching people in the face suggests he may punch people in the face again.”

Internal emails reveal Capitol security officials dismissed warnings about troubling social media posts before January 6 riot

Newly revealed internal emails show an outside group warned Capitol security officials one day before the January 6 insurrection about a series of troubling social media posts calling for people to storm the US Capitol and kill federal employees, evidence that concerns about this kind of online chatter were raised in yet another way ahead of the attack but ultimately still dismissed at the time.

Internal communications show that Capitol security officers were contacted on the morning of January 5 by a representative from the artificial intelligence company Dataminr who flagged that its "First Alert" platform had detected several troubling posts, including one by an individual urging people to "go to Washington on Jan 6 and help storm the Capital."

Brendan Hunt, a Trump supporter who called for killing members of Congress days after the Jan. 6 insurrection, was found guilty Wednesday of making a death threat against elected officials.

The jury, which took about three hours to reach its verdict, found that comments Hunt made in a disturbing video posted online two days after the U.S. Capitol riot amounted to a genuine threat to murder lawmakers in Washington. He faces up to 10 years in prison.

He was arrested Jan. 19, a day before President Biden’s inauguration, after the FBI received a tip about his video, titled “KILL YOUR SENATORS: Slaughter them all.”

In the Jan. 8 video message that led to his conviction, Hunt called on followers to return to Washington with weapons on Inauguration Day when members of Congress would be reconvened, to “put some bullets in their [expletive] heads.”

To support the case, the U.S. attorney’s office in Brooklyn offered evidence that appeared to illustrate Hunt’s deeply rooted racist, anti-Semitic and xenophobic beliefs.

He called New York City a “jungle” in which he could not find “a suitable white pro-American mate” to have children with, and used slurs for Black people, Jews, Asians and Latinos to describe the city’s diverse population, the evidence showed.

Ashli Babbitt's family planning to file $10 million lawsuit against Capitol Police, officer who shot her

The lawyer for the family of Ashli Babbitt is planning to sue the U.S. Capitol Police and the unidentified officer who fatally shot her during the Jan. 6 riot in which she was killed.

Terry Roberts told Zenger News the Babbitt family will seek at least $10 million and will serve the Capitol Police within 10 days. Babbitt was shot through a window as she and a mob of supporters of then-President Trump tried to enter an area near the House floor and a barricaded door.

It's the cop's fault she was trying to murder our elected officials!

Turmoil shakes California National Guard with firing, suspension of top generals

Turmoil has gripped the leadership ranks of the California National Guard, with the firing of the general who commanded its air branch, the suspension of a second key general, and new limits placed by Gov. Gavin Newsom on the organization’s use of fighter jets for civilian missions.

Accused Capitol rioter had ‘Foxitis,’ his attorney says: He ‘started believing what was being fed to him’

In the six months leading up to the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, Anthony Antonio spent his days watching Fox News — a habit that actually made him ill, his attorney told a D.C. federal magistrate judge on Thursday.

His ailment? “Foxitis,” his attorney said, the HuffPost reported. “He became hooked with what I call … ‘Foxmania.’ ”

Critics have targeted Fox for giving a platform for Trump and his allies to elevate baseless claims about the election, many of which were later echoed by Trump supporters who invaded the Capitol. Fox News also faces billion-dollar lawsuits from voting technology companies Dominion Voting Systems and Smartmatic, which allege the network knowingly aired false claims that the voting machines were rigged.

I think that same diagnosis applies to several of my family members...

I'm willing to let this one guy go free to establish a precedent that Fox News' purpose (or at least the main one) is to incite their viewers towards violent overthrow of the US government. Seems like sufficient cause to shut them down and prosecute the people involved in that illegal activity.
