I am visiting my dad and as I read this thread I see a book on the bookshelf entitled... "Self Esteem The New Reformation" by Robert Schuller

Robert Schuller got in trouble for attacking an airline attendant that had refused to remove the cheese from his fruit and cheese platter. Shocking scandal at the time. LOL!

Christian ethics by the late Norman Geisler, fab book about moral “options and issues” inside and outside of the church, exhausting the usual topics like abortion and homosexuality, and even the usual (e.g. biomedical issues, cloning, the validity of civil disobedience.)

In no particular order and definitely NOT limited to this brief brainstorm:

I recognize most of those titles and read my share. My list would look a lot like yours. Diverse, with a smattering of secular and religious gems. :)

I'm having a discussion with another poster @Devin Hammond that I thought deserved its own thread. I know there are many people who do not believe in anything but scripture for learning about God so this thread might not be for you.

Here are my top 10 off the top of my head that greatly impacted my life

1) The Pursuit of God by AW Tozer
2) The Knowledge of the Holy by AW Tozer
3) Knowing God by Packer
4) The Cost of Discipleship by Bonhoeffer
5) How to read the Bible for all its worth by Fee and Stuart
6) The Gospel according to Jesus by MacArthur
7) Pilgrims Progress by Bunyan
8) Fox's Book of Martyrs by Fox
9) Kingdom of the Cults by Martin
10) Evidence that demands a verdict by McDowell

What are your favorites ?
Most books by Watchman Nee including The Normal Christian Life, The Life That Wins, The Spiritual Man, and several others.
The Devil's Alphabet, Kurt Koch.
Pilgrim's Progress, Bunyan.

I’d also recommend The Genesis Flood by Whitcomb and Morris, if still in print. It’s a thousand pages if memory serves, and Mere Christianity by CS Lewis.

Good choices I have them both and hard to leave off the list along with Strobels on the case for series on Christ, Resurrection and Creator.

A random sampling, since this is a very big topic:
  1. On The Incarnation and That Christ Is One by HH St. Athanasius
  2. The Sayings of the Desert Fathers (any given collection; I have the Benedicta Ward translation)
  3. The works of St. Gregory Thaumaturgus, particularly his sermons on the baptism of Christ
  4. A Spiritual Psalter of St. Ephrem (I don't remember who translated/published this off hand; it's in English, but I vaguely remember it being related to the Russian Orthodox)
  5. Selected Discourses of Shenoute the Great (St. Shenouda the Archimandrite), tr. Brakke & Crislip
  6. Christology and the Council of Chalcedon by Fr. Shenouda Maher Ishak
  7. Taught by God: Making Sense of the Difficult Sayings of Jesus by Daniel Fanous
  8. The Holy Workshop of Virtue: The Life of St. John the Little by Zacharias of Sakha (tr. Tim Vivian)
  9. Words for our Time: The Spiritual Words of Matthew the Poor (tr. James Helmy)
  10. The Heresy of Orthodoxy: How Contemporary Culture's Fascination with Diversity Has Reshaped Our Understanding of Early Christianity by Andreas J. Kostenberger and Michael J. Kruger (This is essentially a book-length refutation of the Bauer hypothesis from the 1930s, which modern scholars like Bart Ehrman and others have made a living off of re-presenting as though it is cutting edge scholarship; yawwwwn)

That book is honestly my only exposure to him so far, but it is quite good. I'd be interested to read any of his other works in a similar vein on the preservation of the scriptures.

Have you read about a group of German women prayed in true contrition and repentance on behalf of German country for what atrocities German people had done to the Jews and others in World War II ?

Have you heard how they obey the Lord to come to the new nation, Israel after World War II ?

How the message that the Lord gives them inspire many in Israel to follow the Lord !

How their prayers touch many people!

on behalf of all christians, they pray —that true heartfelt sorrows —seeking to make amends for the past —the past centuries —melt the hearts of the Jews .

If you are interested how a true repentance brings a joy filled life in the Lord, find the books written by mother Basilea Schlink, her close friend mother Martyria and their spiritual daughters.
