Is that an opening to a new year or what?
What prophetic things will this herald?
Did you hear about or see the Wolf moon a day ago?
The very first full moon of 2018 was on Jan 1-2 and is called the Wolf moon in the US from the Native American tradition that in January the full moon is referred to as a 'wolf Moon' mainly because at that time of year, in the cold the wolves howl at this moon in hunger.
This first full moon of 2018 is also a Super Moon meaning that it appears larger than normal because it's closer to the earth it's about 14% bigger and 30% brighter than the usual full moon. It is about 30,000 miles closer to Earth at its perigee which is the closest it comes to Earth in it's elliptic.
But that's just the beginning of the show, if you missed this first one, make a note on your calendar to catch the next one, in this same month. On Jan 31st we will see the second full moon in a month and this has a special name also, a 'Blue Moon'. It's not that the moon is blue but that it is rare, like a blue diamond or blue lobster in that is only comes around once in about 2 1/2 years. This is where the expression 'Once in a Blue Moon' comes from.
This rarity, called a Blue moon will actually be a Red moon, a 'Blood' Moon as this will be an total eclipse of the Moon by the Earth, turning the usually white orb to a deep red.
This again is a rarity only happening twice per year.
This phenomena is being tagged a “super blue blood Moon” and will be worth looking out for if skies in your area appear clear.
Because of these Full moons appearing both on the first day and last day of January there will be no full moon in February but it's made up for a bit as in March will also repeat January's two full moons and have it's own 'blue moon' on March 31st.
But as for the Super Moon, only in January will you see this the whole of 2018 so mark your calendars for Jan 31st.
Now that's all cool and interesting but what does that mean?
Well in a Biblical perspective lets have a look.
Jan 01--Full moon 9:45PM EST (Super Moon, Wolf Moon)
Jan 31--Full moon 8:27AM EST (Super Moon, Blue Moon) This is also Tu B'Shevat, the New Year for trees.
Mar. 01-- Full moon 7:52 PM --Purim
Mar. 31-- Full Moon 8:37 AM --1st Day Passover (This is a Shabbat and a Blue Moon)
Do you think there is any significance?
