They probably didn't cross the Atlantic. Dixon was a London policeman of the old school - kind, friendly and getting to know the people on his patch, and Dr Finlay a Scottish doctor in the 1920s/30s although the programme was made in 1950s/60s if I remember rightly.Haven't heard of them.
