We live in a new world. The potential now exists to wipe out all of us with new bioweopans or genetically engineered diseases. So also with gene editing tools like CRISPR the possibility is already being experimented on of fixing damaged DNA and healing people of previously incurable diseases. The possibility even exists of slowing the aging process and of vastly increased lifespans.
Yet most of us seem oblivious to the risks, ethical issues and political impacts of the new technologies.
If rogue nations can somehow utilise these new techniques it is hard to see how the world could defend itself against the new weopans. The level of casualties in any future war could be even more devastating than a nuclear war.
If people live hundreds of years what about population pressure?
Will cures only be affordable by the rich?
Is humanity doomed or are we are on the brink of a new Golden Age? What can we do to ensure hope triumphs over fear?
