Biden's Education Sec Pick Asked About Boys Playing in Girls' Sports — WOW

"What do you think in general about boys running in girls track meets,
like they've been doing in Connecticut?" asked Sen. Rand Paul.

"I think it's the legal responsibility of schools to provide opportunities
for students to participate in activities, and this includes students
who are transgender," Cardona hit back.

"Frankly, you know, some boy that's 6-foot-2 competing against
my 5-foot-4 niece doesn't sound very fair," Paul said.

"....."

If he has his way, all puplic schools would require
confused males to be alowed in girls sports.

I wonder how this Paul guy feels about a 6' 2" girl
competing against his 5' 4" niece.

My guess is the same way most any parent would feel with there girl
in school sports being forced to complete with a male, disgusted and
outrage that this is being enforced in public schools.

1, nothing proves Transgenders are confused at all. 2, Female Transgenders take blockers , that would stop male growths.

I said girl, not boy. Don't know what weird genetics occur in your neighborhood, but in mine 6'+ girls are not uncommon.

Sorry I did not catch that switch.

I still would consider it wrong either way.

The question was about biological boys playing in biological girls sports. If a transgender girl/biological boy wants to play sports, he can play with the rest of the biological boys. With all he gender confusion going on, sports should be divided via biology not gender.

We're talking about sports, not something really important... like global warming.

So why the outrage? Sports change. They didn't used to allow black folks to play baseball with white people, either.

Excellent. Good to be exiting the dark ages of the previous administration.

I wonder how this Paul guy feels about a 6' 2" girl competing against his 5' 4" niece.
A 6'2" girl is still going to have a testosterone level of around 20 where as a biological boy is going to have a testosterone level of around 1000. Comparing a biological girl and biological boy of the same height is not a fair comparison unless the biological girl is on Steroids.

How about him? He played women's sports before undergoing gender reassignment surgery.

So you think this guy should play women's sports?

Ken basically already answered this with his point about testosterone levels. Injecting yourself with gratuitous levels of testosterone is considered doping, and is already disallowed in sports. Dopers shouldn't be allowed to participate at all. Women dopers certainly shouldn't be allowed to participate in women's sports. This shouldn't be so hard.

He hadn't made that post when I wrote mine.

But could they participate in men's sports? Assuming their testosterone levels were within the range for a man, of course.

And the same goes for transgender women. If their hormones are within the normal range for women, is there any reason why they shouldn't be allowed to participate in women's sports?

Perhaps. Women haven't been entirely barred from men's sports. But obviously this would be up to the men's league in question, whether to allow women who are using drugs which enhance their athletic performance.

I don't think there is parity. I don't think the physical edge that men have over women can be explained entirely in terms of hormones.

Sure they can. It does depend on when those hormones are received and how much of them, but hormones are the primary drivers of our physiques. Someone who goes through puberty and only receives hormone therapy afterwards is likely going to have lingering male/female traits (beyond genitals).

However, it's also important to consider that even within the genders, there can be massive differences in physical ability. My sister had a friend on her middle school basketball team who was already 5'10" at age 11. She could win games singlehandedly and was already being scouted by colleges in 7th grade. She plays professionally now. 100% biologically female. Meanwhile, I (a boy) barely hit 5'0" by the end of 8th grade. I'll give you three guesses on which one of us would have won in a 1v1, and the first two don't count.

Supposing you are right, then perhaps, but it strikes me as extremely dangerous to go down a road where drugs and bodily mutilation are a requirement to play in the league you desire. Ken's approach is wildly better.

Even the strongest statistical correlations contain outliers.

I strongly suspect that the vast, vast majority of transgender individuals do not undergo the hormone replacements and surgeries required simply to play sports against the opposite gender. I'm sure someone, somewhere has done it, but...

Wow indeed. Your OP appears to be a non too subtle attempt at framing Cardona as some sort of liberal nutcase. In the video he appeared very level headed in his approach to what is a very nuanced and complex topic (as we can see in this thread).

I was a confused teen at one time but that did not gain me access to the girls locker-room. Much more thought needs to go into this problem, there has to be a way to make it fair to everyone.

Okay.

Perhaps. Women haven't been entirely barred from men's sports.

Of course. Anika Sorenstam played in the PGA (golf) years ago, and did fairly well before a neck injury ended her career.

But obviously this would be up to the men's league in question, whether to allow women who are using drugs which enhance their athletic performance.

I'm sure the various leagues are capable of making fair decisions that are in the best interests of the sports in question. Whether conservative Christians happen to like them or not.
