Matthew, Mark and Luke are actually three translations of the same document, not three independant works.
No they're not. As indicated by Luke in his prologue, they are independent written extracts from the same oral tradition (learnt by rote).

I should add that each contains material that was in the first place put personally into that oral tradition by the author of the gospel in question, e.g., Luke 1:5 to the end of Chapter 2.
