Unia by Sonata Arctica was my favorite release this year.

Why? Because although much different than their older material, it gives the band much more depth in their total catalouge of songs.

Just a personal favorite. Not a super well-known band. They're from the Montreal Indie scene. They were on tour with the Decemberists in Europe this year I just love the vocals. Lots of cool time changes and what not. Clever lyrics. Guitar parts are lovely with the strange tunings and chords choices. Mmhmm.

MIA-Kala

One of the most original artists out there today. Blast it in your car. Crazy good beats. Catchy. Really crazy mixture of sounds and genres. I wish I saw her live.

Tegan and Sara-The Con

I just like it. It's really a different direction for their other albums, and better.

Feist-The Reminder

You've probably heard her song in the Apple Commercial. But it's a good album. Pretty solid. For the most part anyway. It's good to fall asleep to.

I think these were my favorites...I'm missing a lot. But I don't feel like typing anymore.

It is great, but if you ever think about buying it, check it out first as alot of people don't like it. There are tons of tempo changes and many of the songs keep changing during the course of the song. It is very melodic though.

Their old stuff was extremely fast and very melodic mixed in with alot of great powerful ballads, so this album is quite a change for them.

yea i tired many of their songs, new stuff is different, but i actually love both
