Bernie Sanders defends Fidel Castro's socialist Cuba: 'Unfair to simply say everything is bad'

Sen. Bernie Sanders, the frontrunner for the Democrats' presidential nomination, doubled down on his support for some of Cuban dictator Fidel Castro's policies, saying in an interview that aired Sunday, "it's unfair to simply say everything is bad."

Speaking to CBS News' "60 Minutes," Sanders, a self-proclaimed democratic socialist, pointed to social welfare programs introduced under Castro's regime that he described as redeeming, despite the communist dictator's often repressive human-rights violations against Cubans.

Leave it to Bernie and in short time
we will be as broke as Cuba.

Unfair to say everything is bad...

?

What exactly are you disagreeing with, M-Bob? Is ‘everything’ bad in Cuba? Was everything bad under the animals the US installed to run Chile and Argentina, for example?
When your views don’t match the real world, Bob, it’s not reality that is wrong.

He says he's opposed to the authoritarian nature of Cuba, but he either fails to recognize or refuses to admit that socialism itself is authoritarian, "democratic" or not.

‘Socialism is authoritarian’ is a pretty meaningless statement. Spain has a socialist govt, their last authoritarian govt was at the extreme right wing of politics. Some govts are authoritarian, some aren’t. Denmark has a right wing govt that isn’t authoritarian. It has nothing to do with left/right. The video in the OP is a classic example of brainwashing reinforcement, a tool of authoritarian governments - who is controlling that?

I hope that Cuba is not our roll model now ?
Some seem to think so ?

Some seem to think that saying Moscow metro is a great piece of engineering means you are a communist or saying ME 262 was a better air superiority fighter than what the allies had in WW2 makes you a nazi.

Sanders doubles down on support for communist dictator Fidel Castro in '60 Minutes' interview

In a "60 Minutes" interview that aired Sunday night, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders doubled down on comments he made in the 1980s where he praised late Cuban dictator Fidel Castro. When asked about his current stance on Castro, the Democratic front-runner said he continues supporting aspects of his totalitarian regime.

Bernie seems to truly like Cuba.
He honeymooned in Russia.
Maybe second honeymoon in Cuba?
They will wine and dine him.

Some governments are authoritarian and some are not, that much is true . However, every single socialist government has, by the nature of socialism, to be authoritarian. It is part of socialist DNA. No socialist economic system could be enforced upon the populace without authoritarianism. People do not naturally give up the right to decide upon what they value , how much they value it and what they do not value and willingly give that decision making power over, without authoritarian coercion, to a government entity. Denmark is not a socialist country. Is Spain a socialist country? Does the Government of Spain own or fully control all the means of production? I confess I am not up on Spain and its form of government as it is usually the Scandinavian countries being falsely accused of being socialist so I have research their forms of government (democratically representative ) and economic system (capitalistic) but not Spain's.

Wrong. Socialism by its nature is authoritarian. It cannot be anything else and be Socialism. And if a country like Denmark has some other kind of government, that has nothing to do with any Socialist candidates in the USA.

I remember the Cuban situation well. If ever a nation needed or deserved a revolution, it was Cuba. The Batista regime was thoroughly corrupt and repressive. It operated hand in glove with American organized crime and was supported by the American government. It needed a revolution far more than the colonies did in 1776. If the US government had handled the situation with wisdom instead of knee-jerk anti-communist stupidity, history would have turned out with a much more positive result for both nations.

...which is unrelated to whether someone either admires or disapproves of the Castro government.

The US meddling in foreign countries has not often turned out to be a net positive.

Your definition of socialism is not the definition of socialism.
